Cablevision Channel 14 - Southern CT

In reply to this post in the WSAH thread:

I just found out from Cablevision's on-screen channel guide that WSAH will move from Channel 14 to 77 on 9/16. This applies to the Southern CT audience of Cablevision. And Channel 77 (Local Access) goes to channel 88. By the way this is for digital cable box subscribers.

Question, what becomes of 14?

I'm not sure, but I can say that in New York City, Cablevision runs their own "channel guide" complete with iO promotions - kinda like a localized "TV Guide Channel". So it's possible they might be going that route. FYI: Cablevision has never carried TV Guide Channel (or as it's now known, "TV Guide Network") nor did they carry its previous incarnation, Prevue Guide (at least in New York City, anyway).

Well, I just found out. From now til 9/24, Cable14 is relaying the on-air guide. On 9/24, a new channel from MSG Network, MSG Varsity, appears on the line-up. In essence it's like ESPNU, only this covers high school sports throughout the tri-state area.

But I wonder why put it on that channel 14 for Cablevision subscribers?

I also found this from Cablevision's customer site

The link is way too long and didn't get hyperlinked.

Content will be professionally produced not only by MSG Varsity, but by students and teachers in the community. It is truly a network for local schools, by local schools.

These services will be available beginning September 24.

Thanks for sharing. I actually recently found out that Channel 14 on my system will also be carrying MSGV, with the channel guide moving to Channel 80.

I don't get it, though... Why put this MSG Varsity channel high up on Channel 14, and nowhere near the regular MSG Network or even MSG Plus?
