Cablevision customers may need to pay for GSN

Got my cable bill yesterday...WENT UP (no shock there unfortunately). But in the news section on the side of the bill, it said that

As of 2/1/11, GSN will move from Family Cable to The iO Sports Pak.

For my service that's channel 75, but varies for other customers in New York and New Jersey.

Reason? Perhaps Cablevision thinks of GSN more as a sports network?!?!?! They moved ESPN Classic to that service, which means another $6.95 added on.

Cable companies need to start renaming their packages. My uncle has Comcast and on his system they have Turner Classic Movies in the sports pack. Makes no sense.

Well, what used to be the Sports pack. I believe it is now called the "Sports and Entertainment" pack out here. It includes mostly second tier sports networks, and the Fox Movie Channel. Shame because FMC is actually good, but not alone worth $7 a month.

With GSN all the way up on Comcast Channel 179 I forget about them.

As for good shows:

Match Game

Family Feud (with both Karn and O'Hurley, I don't think they show the Dawson-era ones anymore)

$25,000 Pyramid

Lingo (GSN original)

Deal or No Deal Reruns

Those are the only shows I like. I miss the old school GSN when they showed Classic episodes of Price is Right, Classic Episodes of Wheel of Fortune, Password, etc.

The last person was referring to Richard Karn, John O'Hurley, and Richard Dawson. More folks share the same surnames (last names) than folks who share the same first names and last names together. There is less of a chance of one person sharing the same middle name with someone in addition to the first name and last name. Using first names and last names in secondary references or even the first references to persons is not only helpful to readers unfamiliar with the persons, but respectful.

When my local Comcast cable system added Game Show Network, older were available in the morning, after noon, and the evening and they were treated with respect. They are now available only in the morning and subject to promotional graphics displayed on the screen and having their end credits shrunken and shorten in order for the network to promote other programs. Game Show Network may have made a profit since they began emphasizing the letters "GSN" more and depended more on newer game shows advertisers are willing to support, the network is worth less than it ever was according to me.

I would only watch the original "Family Feud" (which the network continues to present), "Match Game", the original "Card Sharks", which is my personal favorite, and "The $25,000 Pyramid" on the network nowadays.

Thank god I was able to save GSN stuff from the Rich Cronin era pre 3/15/2004, The D-Day of the original GSN.

Why are they picking on GSN? When I had the Dish I had to pay $5 extra a month to get it. It may
be part of their package now though.

It is one of those middle of the road networks that appeals to almost everyone. Hey......that being so maybe we can shake a few dollars a month out of folks is probably what they are thinking.

Maybe there is an underlying thing.......could GSN have gone up on their fee to cable.....and cable
just be using this as a means to fight back and give GSN a "don't try this again" face slap?

I still haven't, and refuse to, watched GSN until they bring back classic Black and White game shows. My favorites are What's My Line and To Tell The Truth from the 50's and 60's.
