Cadillac Jack Inks New Deal

Rodney Ho's blog is reporting that Cadillac Jack has signed a new contract that will keep him at Kicks for 5 more years. If he stays through the contract, he'll have been at the station for 20 years.

It's good to see that Citadel, which has been stripping its stations almost bare, recognizes they had better not mess with the Kicks morning show. They showed the same surprising wisdom in DC.

Congratulations to one of Atlanta's best personalities.

And one of the good guys in radio... no ego, no attitude...and super grateful for what he's got.

CONGRATS BUDDY, YOU DESERVE IT!

Tim Rhodes

At the tender age of 20, Cadillac Jack was hired to host “Cryin’ Lovin’ or Leaving” weeknights on Kicks 101.5.

Caddy is a consummate broadcaster and truly defines the term 'Talent'. For all of us youngsters in the radio business, Cadillac Jack is someone that we should all idolize. I am very blessed to be friends with Caddy, as are many of you, and I'm very happy for him and his family. He is well deserving!

Congrats, Caddy!

Yes he started doing Cryin' Lovin' Or Leavin' on Kicks then he moved over to Y106 to do afternoons because him and Moby didn't get along, the guy was doing aftrnoons on Y Craig Powers moved over to do nights on Kicks as Jr Buttler. Caddy moved back to Kicks in 2000 when 106.7 changed to Eagle and played the older country. Caddy is a good guy and deserves all the success he has had.

I don;t understand why they would move him? Their shofts were not back-to-back so how much hard feelings could there be that they had to be separated. Were they leaving threatening post-its for the other to see during their shift?

There was a problem between Caddy and Moby, the first day Caddy was on Y a listener called in and said that Moby has talking smack about him and Caddy's response was easy come easy go see you in a few years fat boy, that was directed at Moby of course.

The story that I heard was that Norm Schrutt got pissed-off at Craig Powers, seems Craig had been using the control room phone to talk with relatives in another state AND during his airshift, and as punishment Schrutt banished him to the late evening hours on KICKS and brought CJ over to do afternoons at Y.

Personally speaking, I thought Craig was one of the best sounding jocks in all of Atlanta when he was doing
the afternoon Y thing. Tight board, minimum talk, great voice and up tempo. Back in those days I thought
Y had one of the best afternoon shows in all of Atlanta radio and I didn't even like country music.

As a side note, the guy who did evenings (Cal)? got hauled into Schrutts office and was raked over the coals for the same thing as well. The funny thing about this whole farce, Cal didn't even make the first call - seems McGinley & Dixon didn't do their homework when trying to get the goods on Cal.... Needless to say, Schrutt was furious!!! Story has it that even though Schrutt was wrong, he never apologized to Cal.

Rhubarb Fan, in Rodney's blog, Cadillac Jack says it's not true that he didn't get along with Moby, and says they're friends to this day. I don't know where you get your "facts," but I believe Cadillac Jack.

Cadillac's move to afternoons on Y106.7 from evenings on Kicks was considered a promotion at the time; I doubt it had anything to do with Moby.

That said, there was an evening jock on Kicks--his initials are TJK--who felt Moby was picking on him over the air. This jock resigned and then had a change of heart, but it was too late. I know this because TJK emailed me and told me about it at the time.

One last thing: As I recall, Cryin, Lovin & Leavin was one segment of Cadillac Jack's evening show; it wasn't the name of his entire show. I believe it came on at 9 o'clock.

Roddy, they maybe friends now,but when Caddy first came to Atlanta he and Moby didn't get along,I have heard from people who were there. I did not know about Craig Powers, yes he was funny. I agreee Caddy moving to afternoons on Y was a promotion,he was just to good to be stuck on the night shift,so he would have moved up sooner or later.

I loved some of the phrases he used to use on the air like "we're going to put the spurs to" and "saddle up" in reference to the upcoming music set. Anyone remember any of those little sayings he used?

Yes I remember, that and Howdy To Ya,It's Caddilac Jack. As forone of my earlier post,I read Caddy's comments about Moby and I stand corrected.
