From allaccess he's leaving Power 105 and at the end of the year, returning to his full time role as OM for CC Boston and Providence. Probably in that order.

Ah yes, Program Director of WJMN then later WXKS back in the day, back when they actually had two seperate PD's.

Pllleeeeaaassseeee clean up the mess on 94.5.

I was in Connecticut this weekend and Hot 93.7 was such a wakeup call to me on how horrible JAM'N 94.5 sounds and just how bad Boston radio is in general. I love how a small market station like Hot 93.7 is lightyears ahead of JAM'Ns small old and repeitive playlist.

JAMN is the only fully staffed station he has. There's nothing at KISS but Matty and afternoons. Just mornings at B101. Nothing at Coast but a tracked midday show. There is HJY but no one is going to fool with that. It runs itself.

Hartford isn't PPM market yet (believe they are right around the corner from being one)...I believe you will see a large change in the station after that

According to the Arbitron website, PPM measurement began in the market in early September and the first PPM numbers will be released in November. HOT 93.7 has not changed much yet but maybe the first book will force them to change, hopefully not.

Just because both stations report to the industry as CHR/Rhythmics doesn't mean they have to play the same music. WJMN and WZMX are different stations, in different markets with their own competitive situations and priorities.

WJMN is a complement to it's sister station, Kiss 108. It plays a mainstream blend of rhythmic music to keep the younger, suburban white demos happy, allowing Kiss to skew older. Boston is not as diverse of a market as Hartford, so it doesn't have to act as the de facto urban station the way WZMX does.

WZMX is in competition with the CHR station WKSS. That allows them to be more agressive musically to get the younger demos they need. And it's not just the white kids in the burbs they have to target. There is a sizable minority population that also needs to be served. It's a much different competitive enviornment than WJMN is working in.

The big test is to see what effect PPM has on WZMX. Many rhythmics in PPM markets have tightened up and mainstreamed their playlists to stay competitive. My guess is that WZMX may have to do that as well.

That is what I was alluding to. Look at what happened in NY, Philly, etc to playlists.
