Cal basketball to air on KYCY

Yes, especially in conjunction with KIFR/106.9.

Note that KYCY's construction permit to increase power (12kW days and 16kW nights) is now showing as "dismissed" in the FCC database. The CP involved a move to the current KLOK transmitter site on South King Road in San Jose, where the signal would have been diplexed.

My thought is that KYCY would be the perfect fit as the A's partner (with KIFR). Include Cal hoops, some other random Bay Area niche sports programming, bring in ESPN, Fox, or Sporting News syndicated sports talk and try to eliminate KNBR2 1050 (although they don't get any ratings as it is now) with the ownership change. If 1050 flips formats, then 680 does not have the secondary channel (unless they use 107.7) for the Giants/49ers conflicts, or even when they move the Warriors east coast games to 1050 because they don't want to get pre empt Tolbert/Barbieri.
 
They had to dismiss the request because environmentalists complained that a rare bird would fly into the towers and become extinct or something like that. And yes, the A's are speaking to KYCY

No, they didn't. Get your stories straight. You're thinking of the old, original application by KYCY to move to an old garbage dump (I'm sorry, "land fill") in the Alviso mud flats. They ran into opposition from locals and environmentalists and dropped that plan in 2002.

The CP that was dismissed was for diplexing with KLOK -- and those towers have already been there for five decades.

How about having the Bakersfield and Fresno ECHL teams broker their games? Any other fifth-string teams that could pay?

Serious in a way that reflects the stupidity of some of these sports. The ECHL teams are mostly all on air paying good rates, and those teams are closest to San Francisco. It's happened before. Nice try, though.

"Mostly all on air" ... meaning that they aren't entirely on air? And, if those teams are "closest to San Francisco," does that mean you don't consider Stockton to actually be in the ECHL? Or do you have a different map than I do?
