Cal Purviance

If you grew up anywhere near a radio in Modesto during the '50s, '60s and '70s, then you know the name and booming voice of Cal Purviance.

Cal passed away on Sunday at the age of 90. He was -- and undoubtedly will remain forever -- Mr. Modesto Radio. He was a founder and president of the Modesto Radio Museum, and I was privileged to get to know him the past few years. I believe there wasn't a single civic event in Modesto that he wasn't involved in, or a person in town that he wasn't personally acquainted with.

The Modesto Radio Museum is online at http://www.modestoradiomuseum.org/
