North Georgia Calhoun FM owes the FCC some $$$

According to the 2 / 15 FCC report on the Radiosight site, 94.5 owes the commission over $20K for dues and fines and sister WRMG owes $6.5K +. What is going on? I thought 94.5 in the ATL was doing good.

Dunno, but I wouldn't consider them in the ATL. Here are a couple classic IDs from them (one including a lovely dead carrier), from November 29, 2011, which was (I believe) their first day on the air.

I understand that they are simulcasting with WWSZ Decatur and Atlanta translator W233BF (co-channel 94.5 mhz) , and possibly Decatur translator W286DN at 105.1 mhz. Obviously they weren't when your recordings were made. Apparently Core Communicators Broadcasting, LLC, (Steve Hegwood) owns the Calhoun station, and operates the Decatur/Atlanta stations via an LMA.

Gotcha and that, they weren't. I believe they may have just been testing during those IDs, right after Thanksgiving, recorded when we lived in Summerville. Yes, they were recorded with a boombox. :D)

IIRC Hegewood bought the Calhoun station so the would not be an interference "issue"

between Kennesaw and Emerson what is the reception like? i imagine it would be pretty much impossible to tell which 94.5 you were getting, but are either one listenable in that area? and what about south of kennesaw? does the translator cut through the noise floor? and finally, is the audio synchronized? if so, it could make it almost a seamless transition they are both listenable in that area.

If you look at the demographics of North Cobb and Bartow counties, I doubt there is not a lot Rap or Hip Hop listening North of Town Center.

IMHO the only reason a Rap or Hip Hop Atlanta operator would buy a signal North of Cobb county would be to help the Atlanta signal.

i get that, 100%. i'm actually a kennesaw state univ alum. but i don't live in state now, or i'd check for myself. but yes you're right about the demos. however, some of those 51,000 KSU students might fit the demo.
to the point, though, i'm just interested in how the transition from one 94.5 to the other sounds, and if it's listenable near the fringe.
would the atlanta translator be better served by a calhoun simulcast, or a calhoun frequency change or deletion? I suppose if he shut it down it would remain in the allotment tables and somebody else would apply for it. i do doubt there's much gordon county support for the format.

Re: @secondchoice, according to this classic article, 'IPK rimshots Rome and it says it covers the I-75 corridor, but I ain't too sure about that myself. Also, @amos1001, I tend to agree, not much Gordon County support for the format.

well your tape from Summerville didn't sound too bad, and Rome is a similar distance. so is cartersville/emerson. and maybe tunnel hill to the north. chattanooga would be, IMO, a miracle.

Good points and thank you. If memory serves, that was a less than splendeferous boombox, but it served it's purpose. Yeah, Chattanooga would be a miracle, me thinks, too.
