I've read several posts indicating that some of you are interested in volunteering at the Oklahoma History Center to help us index and organize the David Bennett Aircheck Collection.
This is a massive undertaking. There are approximately 10,000 cassettes and about 5,000 reels (1 inch, 5 inch and 7 inch.) The earliest tapes I found were from the mid-1960's. David continued to record stations thru 2006 or 2007. He used high end consumer equipment, so the quality tends to be very good. Most of the recordings are of Oklahoma City stations, with some Tulsa, Enid, Muskogee and Lawton. He sang in a barbershop quartet and travelled to thier annual conventions, and took some of his equipment with him. So you'll find some Chicago, Los Angeles and stations from other markets in the collection.
We would very much appreciate help from anyone who has the time. This is a project we've wanted to complete since we received the collection.
Our volunteer coordinator is Steve Hawkins, who can be reached at (405) 522-3176.
