With all due respect, I find it very difficult to believe that many people on this message board ever truly LIKED "talk radio" (i.e., the format whereby a talk show hosts fields calls about a topic) given how trendy it has become to bash the format. It's inconceivable to me that someone could have enjoyed listening to KTAR (Ankarlo-era or earlier) and then suddenly decided, "I don't want to hear this Aunt Edna toaster talk." I'm sorry, but you can't just change radio-listening preferences like you change a pair of socks in the morning. It doesn't work that way. It's like me waking one morning and deciding, "Gee, you know what? maybe chick flicks aren't so bad. Maybe I'll Netflix 'Bridges of Madison County' or 'Eat Pray Love' later." Similarly, you can't just decide you don't like talk radio anymore because you find Aunt Eda toaster-talk so cringe-worthy. It simply means you probably never even liked the format to begin with and bashing the format gives you some satisfaction. Talk radio is people-watching with your ears - nothing more, nothing less.
Bonneville's terrible decision to kill the phone lines on 92.3 says to me it will be a long time before anyone else tries talk radio ("real" talk radio) on local FM ever again. They should put the syndicated sports stuff on 92.3, keep the local sports talk on 620, and ditch the "news/talk" since they're obviously ok with Clear Channel owning the format in this town.
