call-in topics?

what's up guys? holden from 106.9 WCCC here....

well, its been about a year since i've checked in on radio-hate.com and i've noticed you guys are still taking a dump on everything. i thought i'd do my yearly "let-see-if-we-can-come-up-with-some-good-ideas-instead-of-just-saying-everything-sucks" post. once again, i'd like to keep this thread positive - i know that's impossible because its much easier to crap on something than it is to come up with an actual contribution to a non-negative discussion... but hey!!! let's give it a shot!!!!

how's about some good call-in topics? i've found the best topics for listeners are usually in the form of a question. here's a few we've done that have worked (some better than others)...

Movie characters that shoul've died

Do you talk to your dog? How?

Worst movie accents.. Don cheadle, oceans 11

You know you're old when ______

Times you're allowed to throw underhanded

Your final dying words

any ideas? if you don't want to contribute please don't post anything. save your hate for the people in your life. insulting me isn't going to do you any good because, well, this is a message board about radio and the fact that you're reading this is just as sad and pathetic as me posting something on this board. insulting me on this board just might break the internet's threshold for irony and it may explode from retardedness... so um.... yeah...

anyway, any ideas are welcomed and thanks for taking the time to read this post, hopefully we can come up with some cool creative stuff that could maybe make connecticut radio suck a little tiny itsy bitsy less.

thanks,

holden wccc

In the interest of positive contributions, here goes... The slightly offbeat topics Holdenwccc mentioned do seem to get more response than the more pressing world issues of the day. It depends in part on your audience, of course. Sometimes you can just ask your listeners to do something to make you laugh. They'll take the ball and run with it, sometimes going where you don't want to go, but that's why we normally record calls.

Pop culture doesn't always work, although I know some hip hop and CHR stations got lots of calls over the Chris Brown mess. There's so much of that on syndicated radio and TV, why do it locally?

A local controversy can bring big response, such as here in New London when the football coach gets fired, a Secret Santa gets thrown out of the Lisbon Wal-mart or a Waterford Home Depot employee gets fired for apprehending a shoplifter. The Voluntown story that ran again last week on Extreme Makeover Home Edition lit up the phones when the story when the project was underway.

A moral dilemma can also get people fired up. If somebody's kids are disrupting a restaurant, do you say something when the parents let them run wild? This one got women calling.

You mileage may vary.

Hey holden,
I really miss my 10 o'clock all request hour with slater... I like the 10'clock topic butI really wish it was at 11pm when he used to do back around 2002-2003. I don't remember much from then but I do remember he did it then. things I also miss:
LOVE it or shove it, and Madlibs. I loved listening through commercials on CCC waiting to hear what people would say during his madlibs. last thing, I realyl hope you guys can get better audio quality on the stream but for now it is not too bad I am listening religiously on my blackberry.

those are some of my thoughts down here from the area where there is ABsolutely no Active Rock Stamford CT.

I also live in the western part of the state where CCC is hit-or-miss (depending on whether your climbing a hill or going down into a valley). Usually I listen to 104 or I-95, but I also channel surf during commercials. A few weeks ago I was on the road and channel surfing, I hit my pre-set for WCCC and I was in luck, crystal-clear signal. Some of the guys were talking about a recent trip to L.A. and I have to tell you, it had me hooked until I couldn't pick you guys up anymore. Things like that are neat to listen to, when you get to hear the human side of radio, when you feel part of the same community - it's the impersonal, lack of identity, radio I think most people get turned off by.

p.s. Out of all the stations in CT, I don't think I've ever heard anyone really bash CCC. As far as I'm concerned, the station rocks (when I can get it).
