Call letter changes

AM and FM stations in separate markets can have the same calls, hence the -FM suffix in some cases. Meanwhile, what is your source for this information?

It's all in the call sign database.

I wonder when WGAF will come on the air

This is reminding me of 104.1 several years ago. For a very short time, they were something like WPHH-FM and then WURH-FM, or something like that. Is there a reason why the ID was WPKX-FM Windsor Locks/Hartford for only two weeks or so?

Weren't they WPHH during their "Power" days, then briefly WURH during the license transfer and switchback to alternative?

So what do the WUCS calls mean? University of Connecticut Sports which they don't even have the rights to.

Yet.

Not gonna happen. It's just not going to happen. The infrastructure investment is pretty sizable, so is the investment in staff to run the network. Then there's the fact that WTIC absolutely clobbers the coverage of 97.9, day and night. Add into that the advertising revenue that CBS Radio gets and they're not going down without a fight. Clear Channel will never spend the money it'd take to get the rights away.

It's the call sign park 'n shuffle.

Watch for one more change with WRNX going to NH to be "parked" and WPKX going to 100.9. I doubt that "Kix 100.9" is only a temporary move for 100.9.

"WRNX" has name recognition in the market, and you can bank on Clear Channel not wanting Saga to seize on a chance to reclaim a "WRNX" somehow.

There is also the other chance , albiet small, that Clear Channel has one more move up its sleve to get one more FM allotment squeezed into the Springfield area and putting WRNX on it too.

They changed to WURH when Clear Channel still owned them, and switched from the crappy "Power" format back to Alternative. They stayed with WURH until the sale and the new owners switched it back to WMRQ.

Too bad Clear Channel killed WRNX, that station was a true gem among all the crap that is out there... One more good radio station bites the dust due to corporate radio taking over...

And the listening public preferring other genres of music, delivering more ears to advertisers.
