Call Letter Changes....

Clear Channel grabs the "WTKK" calls thrown off by former Boston talker 96.9 for 100.7. Rumors have them switching WTKK calls to 106.1 for a rebranding of the talk station sans "Rush" in the title, and WRDU going to 100.7......

Would they consider a revival of the real WRDU???

It wouldn't be the same if it's not "1061 ARR DEE YEW"
Then again, not as many market people outside radio even remember Reynolds and Silva, et al these days. So that might not be a concern.

Rush Radio was a bad brand to begin with... just like the stations who wrapped themselves up in Howard Stern in the early 2000s. Branding it what it is (talk) makes more sense.

To make this happen, move what may become WTKK and the talk format to 100.7, and keep WRDU at 106.1 and if they plan to revive the old format, do just that.

I think something bigger is happening. Why would they let Kitty go? Should be interesting. Is 'RDU coming back or not? I agree it wouldn't be the REAL 'RDU if it's not on 106.1. I say they go mainstream. Her email said they are going in a different direction. So what's that mean? A tweak to mainstream or dump the Rock format all together. It should be interesting to see what unfolds at Smoketree.

I'd love to see talk on 100.7. The 106.1 signal was castrated so badly with the move to the WRAL stick.

It's Day #3 of Clear Channel Raleigh's 106.1/100.7 rebrand, yet the WTKK call letters are still parked at 100.7 and the WRDU calls remain at their 29-year home on the dial, 106.1 FM. The HD display for 100.7 changed from WRVA to WTKK yesterday. While 100.7 is branding as WRDU, the new branding on the (as of this writing) actual WRDU seems incomplete. A post on another thread about this questioned why they put the WTKK call letters on 100.7 for a few days if the intention was to move them to 106.1. This and the fact they haven't yet switched makes me wonder if we haven't seen the last of the changes yet.

Also check out 100.7's Facebook page: They're still "The River" on Facebook, but with the new WRDU logo as their cover photo.

Someone commented on that on their page, I think it takes a few days or so for Facebook to approve the name change. I know when the RBC Center became PNC Arena, it took about a week for the name change to be approved by Facebook.

Funny you should mention that... from a sweeper I heard yesterday, apparently the call swap hasn't been made official yet: "Uh... could we have those call letters back? They're not for talk. They're for rock..."

While fcc.gov doesn't show it yet, it looks like the WRDU/WTKK call letter swap took effect today as of 12 a.m. I was listening to 106.1-2 and they identified as WTKK-HD2, Knightdale. Flipped over to 100.7, and they ran the liner about those call letters being for rock and not talk before IDing as WRDU, Wake Forest.
