Callie Crossley lasts two days on The Takeaway

She was "guest co-host" on Monday and Tuesday and implied that she'd be on all week, but then she was gone on Wednesday and hasn't been back.

Her voice is just brutal, and nothing against her, and she didn't have the "presence" that either John Hockenberry or Neil Conan did.

I can't believe Hockenberry took his summer break this week, one week after the show replaced Talk of the Nation. REALLY not a good idea on Hockenberry's part.

Technically, "TOTN"'s replacement is "Here and Now" with the new two-hour format and sidekick for Robin Young (and it's NPR instead of PRI). "The Takeaway" is, as far as PRI is concerned, "Here and Now"'s replacement.

Mark,

I don't know what has happened in your market, but here in Tampa, WUSF has replaced "Talk of the Nation" with "The Takeaway." I'm not sure what this "Here and Now" show you're talking about, the daily line-up in Tampa is:

5AM-9AM Morning Edition
9AM-10AM BBC World Service
10AM-12PM Diane Rehm
12PM-1PM Fresh Air
1PM-2PM The Story
2PM-3PM The Takeaway
3PM-4PM The World
4PM-6PM All Things Considered
6PM-6:30PM Market Watch
6:30PM-7PM BBC World Service
7PM-8PM Fresh Air
8PM-9PM Q

But anyways, Crossley was really bad.

"Here and Now" was a WBUR produced, one-hour news program distributed by PRI. On July 1, it switched to NPR, added a second host, and changed to two hours. NPR killed TOTN and replaced the programming with "Here and Now." Was the switch related to WGBH buying PRI?

NPR claimed that the affils wanted a midday news show and that there was a glut of call-in shows out there. Before you say "what about the failure of 'Day by Day?'" NPR claims that it's mostly BUR's money paying for the show, not their money, and that was a few years ago anyway. I'm not sure about the WGBH part, since PRI still distriubtes BUR's "Living on Earth," but PRI's new owners could be a factor.
