CALLING ALL ANDROID EXPERTS - WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE APPS?

Just got myself a pretty cool Android tablet. 10" widescreen, runs Froyo. Pretty slick.

Now comes the search for some good apps. I've put in Winamp, TapeMachine (recorder/simple editor) and the usual suspects (Gmail, Facebook, Firefox Beta, etc.)

Unfortunately the search function at the Android Market is NOWHERE near as good as Apple's AppStore (and no, I'm not an Apple fanboy). Tried a couple of the third-party Android search sites and that was no better.

Here's what I'm looking for:
1. A VNC viewer that will work on encrypted connections (we use RealVNC Enterprise)
2. A "hotkey" audio player similiar to the "Drop Machine" app for iPhone

And I'd like to hear what apps you're using (as pertains to radio/broadcasting). Let the replies begin! Thanks.

Hotspot. Nice to be able to use LogMeIn on my computer from my wife's phone.

I have sight issues and the whole HTC size issue is a problem for me. Chances are the Logmeinapp for the tablet might work without the computer.

Xiaa Live, very stable, will take almost any stream
WiFi Analyzer, very handy
And FTP, great FTP client

Use them on my Samsung Galaxy S, running Froyo

Hertz. It allows great quality audio to be recorded from the Droid's internal mic. It can then be emailed to the station & you have an impressive sounding remote with no added equipment.

"WiFi Analyzer, very handy"
Yeah... Too bad the Apple AppNatzis took that away from us on the iPhone. I'm still really, really unhappy at them for taking that from the iTunes store. The iPhone is great, but without Apple's stupid app rules, it would be much better.

Bob - thanx for the Hertz tip. I tried it and apparently it either doesn't like Froyo or the hardware in the tablet as it wouldn't record a thing. I have TapeMachine already but it never hurts (no pun intended) to have a backup app.

OKC - say what you want about the App Store, but the overall quality of the apps is a LOT higher there than in the Market.

Looks like I'll be answering my own question.

Remote access: WYSE Pocket Cloud. Supports RDP and unencrypted VNC. There's no encrypted VNC app yet available for Android.

Audio editing: TapeMachine (paid version). Like Cool Edit 2000 for your Droid. Even has scrubbing. Saves to multiple formats.

Audio player: Winamp (naturally!)

"Instant Replay"-type app: SoundIt! or CustomSoundboard. Neither are polyphonic but one can hope an app will come out that allows playing 2 or more sounds simultaneously.

Doc management: OfficeSuite PRO. Well worth the $15. It does it all, including accessing Google Docs.

E-mail client: K-9 mail. Supports just about every server out there.

Browser: Dolphin Browser HD. Runs on the Android engine but adds features the default browser left out.

If you're willing to use a trial piece of software, I think PowerAMP is further along than WinAMP for the Android platform.

I can't add anything to your requests, but Sound Hound and Tricorder have become two of my favorite toys lately. Sound Hound is a free unlimited music detection program, and it seems to find just about everything I throw at it, from pop oldies to j-rock to ranchero music at the local Mexican restaurant. And tricorder emulates the Star Trek device, complete with several useless but fun features like accelerometer, magnetometer, acoustic display and some other neat stuff.
