I've read about this system from Leonard Kahn at his website and elsewhere but has anyone here had any actual experience with it? WSRF here in Ft. Lauderdale apparently uses it but I don't know of any receivers that can actually decode it.
 
The digital modulation technology used in Kahn's CAM-D system is apparently covered by US Patent 4,688,255, awarded in 1987:

As I understand it, Cam-D uses this data transmission signal to regenerate the higher audio frequencies through some type of lossy codec, but below 7.5 kHz, it's analog, pretty much the same deal as Kahn's AM stereo system. I'm not aware of any receivers that can be purchased through retail outlets, but Leonard could probably supply one at a high price.
 
Mr. Kahn has a couple of samples of what CAM-D audio supposedly sounds like @ http://wrathofkahn.net/. Kinda' reminds me of those old "re-channelled for stereo" records they used to have in the 60s!

These files are huge PCM audio files, so if you use a modem like I do, make some coffee and prepare to wait........

The sound clips aren't really of CAM-D but taken from analog AM to show CAM-D won't mess with the host signal. However, the stereo clip seems to indicate the contrary unless it wasn't a very good stereo station to begin with (C-Quam sounds better).

When he provides clips of what CAM-D sounds like on a CAM-D receiver I'll be interested. Until then I'll have to say :p
