Cameron Smith Needs You

Posted with permission. Cameron Smith host of Smooth Jazz TV and former Oasis morning guy needs your support to bring Smooth Jazz back to D/FW. Please read and email Cameron if you want Smooth Jazz back in D/FW.

From Cameron's Jazz Journals:

Greetings from the epicenter of all things Smooth Jazz here at Center Stage Television in Dallas. As you probably know there have been lots of conversations about just where Smooth Jazz Radio is headed since some stations have recently switched formats to Rap, Rock or just about anything else! No where is that more evident than right here in Dallas. For more than 15 years the OASIS has been our beloved Smooth Jazz radio station here until the format was switched to MOVIN’ a few months back.

I had the honor of working at the OASIS in two capacities over those years, first as the Director of Special Projects (a multi faceted sales and management position) and much later as the morning host. I can’t tell you how many e mails I’ve received from my friends and fans here who were shocked and devastated when the station switched without fanfare one afternoon at 5pm. WHAM! GONE!

At first we all thought it was a programming stunt…and then the realization set in…Smooth Jazz as we knew it here in Big D had vanished. Well I’m hearing some rumblings out there that there’s a chance we can get it BACK!

With that being said I’ve been sending the word out to anyone that knows anyone in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex to contact me at my e mail address so we can rally our collective forces and start to take an active role in voicing our opinions and exercising our consumer muscle. If you have family or friends here in North Texas let them know that I would really appreciate hearing from them. Here’s my e mail [email protected] send it to your peeps and let’s take it to the streets! I am compiling a list of advocates and contacts to take to some key broadcasters here to show them just how much money, passion and buying power we possess.

My old friend Michael Tozzi has proven that activists banding together with a shared vision can make things happen. Philadelphia lost their Smooth Jazz station last year and Michael took it upon himself to rally the troops…they are back on the air with a new station owner and dial position and doing better than ever.

Now it’s our turn! Let the battle cry go forth that Smooth Jazz will never say die here or anywhere else…we must impose our will and find a way to bring the sound of Urban America back to a city that should be ashamed of turning its back on us!

I look forward to hearing from you no matter where you are. Stay safe and keep it SMOOTH!

It's actually a word. Spoked - to furnish with or as if with spokes. That must have hurt! ;D

Yep. :) Just seemed like an incorrect word for the aforementioned post. ;D

What I meant to say is that I told him that we need the Smooth Jazz format back on the radio and I also told him that I was upset that they went off the air. They need to put the Smooth Jazz format on 105.3 not 100.3.

Try "spoken" :)

I received a reply from Cameron. Here is what it said. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this
function.

Jay, great to hear from you…I’m busting butt trying to get Smooth Jazz back in town.

Thanks for your support. If you have the time we’re getting together for some Brunch this sunday at The Cape in Uptown at around noon just to hang out and network. I track new Smooth Jazz in the restaurant and there’s a college Jazz trio playing on the patio…feel free to join us!

Isn't it a ploy to have a "radio station" link to the "Smooth Jazz TV" show? I believe there is more than meets the eye here in terms of self marketing and not a true move to get a smooth jazz format on the radio once more. Just an observation.

I don't know Cameron personally at all, so I don't know if it is a ploy or not to link the radio station with his TV show, so I can't answer that question.

But I'd really like to see Smooth Jazz return to the airwaves in the DFW market.

As for the previous poster's comments about it being an exciting genre, like watching paint dry, I'd much rather listen to it than KZPS or Movin 107.5, no doubt.

I call that great marketing. It may be self serving, but isn't that what marketing is...
