CAMPAIGN TO REVIVE WTMP?

The Tampa Organization of Black Affairs apparently wants to buy the WTMP call letters and place them on a different facility.

Which station would be a candidate for that? My guess would be 1300, especially if "La Bahia" is cutting into their business. Maybe 1110, even though it's only a daytimer.

But given the current state of AM, are they wasting their money? Would they even be able to put up the amounts they're suggesting?

With WRXB in the gospel camp and apparently not interested in picking up WTMP-style programming, it would be great for another station to do just that. I'm sure there is no shortage of stations that could use a (hopefully) built-in audience.

Two things about WRXB. Best darn jingles I've heard in awhile (I'd love to find a copy!) and, unfortunately, a very directional signal.

As one who was truly saddened to see the demise of this legacy station, I am concerned that this campaign may unintentionally ignore the business considerations that prompted the format change. Nostalgia isn't going to cut it. The format presumably was changed because the station was not paying its way or meeting expectations of the new lessees. For this campaign group to succeed in their efforts to bring back a WTMP-type station, they're going to have to have a business plan that will convince prospective station owners that the format will make money. I wholeheartedly wish them well.
