can a barex box decode a website audio?

I've got a Barex instreamer. I'd like to push a mp3 stream to a server with a web address. When I've done this using Windows media player I just set it to PUSH and the server operator gave me an address to place in the WMA encoder consisting of numbers and letters ending in dot net but no www or http:// at the begining. If I use the Barex to push to the server do I add the WWW or HTTP:// or both to an address I put in the Berex or doesn't it work that way. Anyone ever done this?

A Barix encoder can push to a Barix decoder, using RTP. A Barix decoder can pull from a Barix encoder using RTP. Any player that can pull an MP3 stream should be able to draw from a Barix encoder using HTTP. As for your server, the Barix can push to Icecast / Shoutcast, but I don't know about anything else.

Barix Exstreamers used to decode WME... and maybe they still do. Barix dropped support of the format earlier this year. I don't know if they removed WME functionality from newer firmware versions.

In your case, the server you want to push to will have to distribute MP3. Barix boxes don't generate Windows Media streams or AAC.

They have a Yahoo Group you might check out, if you can't otherwise get your questions answered. From what I've seen of it, they appear to be pretty helpful.

Barix will still decode WMA with The 1.56 Streaming Client firmware. Though not officially supported, 1.56 will also decode AAC just fine. It is the closest to a 'universal' Exstreamer firmware Barix offers.

As far as I know, the Instreamer will only encode variable-bit-rate (VBR) mp3. I once used an Instreamer to push mp3 via RTP to a PC at a transmitter site, so you should be able to do it if the machine at the far end can accept VBR mp3 streams via RTP.

Barix no longer markets the Instreamer 100 under that name. It's now just the "Instreamer". It can encode VBR or CBR through a setting in the user interface. Most current Exstreamers can decode CBR, if that's what you want.
