Can AM stations do this?

I notice that a number of FM stations have print information about the song/artist or at least the call letters of the station. I have never seen that on an AM station. If AM stations can't do this, please explain why. What do the letters for the service stand for (RDS?).

Thank you.

AM stations that use IBOC ("HD Radio") can display the call letters through something called "Program Associated Data" (PAD).

RDS (Radio Data System, if I recall properly) is an FM standard only.

There is no standard besides IBOC for transmission of this data on AM stations. I suppose that, given the small amount of data to be transmitted, it would be theoretically possible to transmit the call letters. (say, by frequency-shift keying the carrier by a small amount and at a very slow data rate) But no standard for doing so exists.

Many AMs which are remotely operated use subaudible tones for the remote control return path. Most of the ones I've seen had a 'fil on' tally connected to them. I never figured why.

Radio Disney's AM stations that are broadcasting HD Radio are doing song title and artist names. The text scrolls on the radio screen as the song is playing.
