Can anybody name one good reason to work for WGST?

Pays better than WalMart...with benefits.

Not necessarily. I worked at the big "W". I'd rather be at GST.

on Wednesday, Surfer posted this:

"For the love of all that's holy PLEASE QUIT TALKING ABOUT WGST!!! Talk about anything else! PLEASE!! We all know the station sucks, management sucks...in fact, trees from neighboring states are all leaning towards Atlanta because the station SUCKS so much. Talk about Kicks, talk about 99X, talk about governmental regulations for the radio industry, talk about ANYTHING EXCEPT WGST!!!"

now Surfer starts a WGST post.

speaks for itself, huh?

Buuuuuuuuurn.

I admit it. Besides, can't anyone see the raging irony in doing that? Nope. Neither can I. It was just a moment of insanity and I was wondering if, since I DID POST A THREAD ABOUT GST, I could get a serious reply. But, just like the station, I can't get anyone to take me seriously. Whew! ;D

I'll reply from my experience (although management has drasticly changed since my time):

It's a great place to work for someone right out of college who wants to learn a bit of everything. The most fascinating part of the station for me was not the local programming but the regional network operations. The folks who do that really know their stuff.

That having been said, I know of few people who would choose to make a career there. Those that have--Matt Cook, Rob Maynard, Doug Nodine, to name a few--are very good and have been retained through shakeup after shakeup for a reason. As for myself, three years and two months was enough--not just at the station, but in the business.

reasons 2 work for GST:

1) Bloomquist is a better boss that GW Bush (RB actually fires some incompetents)
2) No pressure to keep/expand high ratings
3) WGST groupies may be NASTY, but they'll do ANYTHING
4) Chance [EDIT]
5) I hear the vending machines are pretty good
6) Braves tix (maybe...sometimes)
7) The experience of working at a top station isn't very enlightening
8) The bonuses have to be VERY attainable
9) It might look okay on a resume
10) FOR THE LOVE OF RADIO

[EDIT-profanity and threat of physical violence]

Your last reason is the best...

FOR THE LOVE OF RADIO!

Is there any better reason to work for them? Nope. People who truly want to see a radio station broadcast quality stuff and work the way it's supposed to are the ones who truly LOVE radio. :D

Because YOU have to love radio to work here... Other than that, just a joke of a station... I would rather work at WSB. At least there, you have access to great equipment to work with, and work with the greats of the business. WGST? I would rather work at WIMO Winder Ga !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It pays more than Metropolitan Avenue and you only have to do one guy. Unfortunately, that would be me!

Was it CC that had a job fair looking for sales folks a few weeks ago? And if I hear correctly, WGST is still looking for sales folks? Does not sound like many folks think this would be a rewarding sales job . . .

Great! Goatboy has an interest!

1) You get to work in the "Building of Death."
2) You work for the station that once was "home" to Bert Parks.
3) It pays better than Burger King.
4) No one will hear anything you say.
5) No one will know what has become of you.
6) Free coffee.
7) You can listen to the Braves crystal clear, night and day.
8) You get to tell everyone you work with Atlanta's best kept secret.
9) It is almost as good as getting an unemployment check.
10) Two words. Randall Bloomquist.

You forgot one:

11) You get to work with boobs. That's about all they hire at GST.

I keeping hearing that more changes are on the way at WGST. Wonder if they are just gonna "blow it up?"

If I may get serious on my "silly" thread...if more changes are on the way for WGST, then maybe...JUST MAYBE, CC has decided that it's better to play Music of your Life (Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Big Bands, etc.) on that signal and take the money from the older crowd's advertising (Geritol, wrinkle creams, etc.) and forget the coveted "demographics". They'll probably make money and the expenses will be down to a minimum. All satellite all the time. Smaller sales staff needed because there will be less avails. Ratings really don't matter so most of the business can be local and I'm sure that there are plenty of businesses ready to pony up the $$$ to advertise to a demo that spends its money wisely. And the $5 dollars a spot price is very appealing. Anyway, it's just a thought.
