Can anything be done with 1130 am in detroit?

Just thought I would toss a question out there. Is there anything that Clear Channel could do with 1130 am? this frequency made a name for itself mostly as a sports station( in addition to playing country music for many years). but with 97.1 the clear sports station in detroit, 1090 am making some strides, and planning a move to 1160 am this summer(skeptical about that). is there any thing, any format that could get this frequency attention, and make up for the poor signal, and Clear Channel's lack of interest in this station nowadays? or is this station doomed with no format to switch to(1200, 1310, 1400, and now 1270 am are all talk). Thanks for your replies. Be well.

Not sure what holes it could fill. Maybe Gospel? You've already stated why sports is a dead end for it. XYT AM and WJR are already doing the Conservatalk and would prog talk be able to pay the bills here?

I would like to see RADIO ONE try to get 1130 AM by entering into an LMA- Local marketing agreement with Clear Channel, or buy 1130 AM from Clear Channel so they can use 1130 AM for the 24-7 Praise Gospel music format, and then they could flip 102.7 WPZR to Classic hip hop.

The new station could be called PRAISE 1130 AM DETROIT's INSPIRATION STATION.

The new Classic hip hop station could be called 102.7 JAMZ - 102.7 WDTJ FM Mount Clemens/DETROIT, Your #1 station for Old School Hip Hop.

What strides is 1090 making? 1130 had it rough from the beginning.
They alienated the big teams. Shoot, the big teams would go to 1500 as a back up station before they'd talk to 1130.

Wasn't the first PD's name Lorna or ?

how can 1090 be able to move to 1160 to begin with in detroit with the fact Chicago having a 50KW signal on 1160. plus Cincinnati has a station on 1160 as well. How can Detroit be able to get a station moved to 1160

Birach has a CP to upgrade WCXI 1160 Fenton to 15 kW days, 220 watts night from a new site shared with WPON 1460 near Wixom.

Back before Sima bought it and Dino Day was still there, we did a study that showed the station could do 25KW from the Detroit area. This was before WYLL did their upgrade. They are south of Chicago, shooting north, through town.

WQRT in the Cincinnati market shoots north, from northern KY. WCXI fits in there, fairly well.

Also, remember that Salem made a deal on a Canadian 1160. That deal might have helped in the WCXI application.

I don't listen to 1130. Is anyone in the market doing Fox Sports Radio? Its really a Clear Channel product with the Fox name on it.
The night time power stinks.

Thanks for the replies. WDFN carries fox sports radio pretty much all day, and that to me is the problem. most of FSR'S programming is just awful with few exceptions. and the local shows on DFN aren't that great(I like shep, but maybe a different time slot perhaps?), and jry, the strides 1090 am are trying to make-at least, is the move to 1160 am which i'm skeptical about, but they need it because their format won't do much on 1090 because they already operate at such a low power due to being on the same channel as WBAL in Baltimore. But with that said, with the lack of care being put into 'DFN, the afternoon show on 1130 not being great, ESPN 1090 am may be closer than we think.

I am pretty sure that the move to 1160 will happen.

For very little outlay (certainly less that what Sima has spent thus far) you get an okay Detroit signal. The value of the
asset goes way up.

If 1130 has Fox Sports, do you know if they clear Andy Furman, in AM drive?

1130 am airs the first hour of that show from 6-7 am, then it's shep from 7-10. they have aired whomever is doing the fsr morning show from 6-7 since they returned to some local programming.

Numan, thanks for the reply. your idea isn't too far-fetched. I've lived on the east and west sides of Detroit, and lately I travel to Southwest Detroit, and 1130 comes in good there. the problem is, the signal doesn't hit much of the suburbs pretty good, and that's the area you need to get.(I have even been in Dearborn at 5:15 PM and gotten interference on 1130 am, so that's another issue). and classic Hip-Hop on any signal would be interesting considering what gets played nowadays.

Just curious. The AM drive guy on FSR used to work for me. Didn't leave on the best terms.
