Can Columbus support another "sports"format?

I know a few years ago, 1230 tried to go against WBNS and didn't do so hot. Just kind of wondering what people "in the know" think. I personally have been turned off from "The Fan" ever since they went to mostly local guys. I can only stand Spielman for about an hour at a time. I have been able to pick up the "Jim Rome Show" out of Dayton and also "The Dan Patrick" show out of another Dayton station.

I thought 1230 didn't have enough "sports" on it personally. They had the Reds but the Browns were still over on 105.7 if I recall. With the changes over at 1460 I could see a more network/nationally oriented sports talk station being viable. Let's face it, 1460's bread and butter are the Buckeyes and that's fine.. but there are other sports in this world other than Buckeye football and basketball. Then again, try selling that to advertisers in Columbus.

Seems like "Ted"'s anemic ratings are making it prime for a flip. Sports on FM might be a good cluster-mate with "Blitz."

Like 1230, Ted is hamstrung by a bad signal. I doubt 103.9 could do much better with any format sans a big signal improvement. Yes, their 12+ was somewhat higher during some of the early Eagle days, but there was less competition then. And I'm guessing Ted is cheap to program and has decent demographic profile, both of which would be plusses on the balance sheet.

Remember also that when 1230 did the intial switch to sports the did the "un-thinkable".......airing University of Michigan football games so they could go head-to-head with WBNS on "The Game". They were also a Fox Sports affiliate. Good programs as well. I would really like to see a FM sports station in this town. I really think it would fly.

Recall that TedFM has a CP to increase power that will give them better coverage downtown at least (below I-70 instead of above it as it stands). I don't recall however if this has happened already or not.

Regardless, with Rome now on 1230 I don't know if another sports station would be viable without a strong cornerstone.
