Can EAS Tones be used for this?

I am listening to Colin Cowheard on ESPN Radio. He just aired a comedy bit about this weekend's Syracuse/Illinios college football game and it used the EAS tones for a "Terrible Football Warning" I thought the bit was hilarious but could ESPN Radio get a big fine from the FCC for airing this?

Now ya done it. Look for a certain "country" girl-group to incorporate EAS tones into a poli-country "song" in an effort to generate confusion nationwide! Makes me wonder whether some EAS receivers might respond to the proper mix of frequencies if they are generated by musical instruments or even the human voice.

gosh man, don't u ever stop? the guy asked a legit question and u have to play the A-HOLE CARD................

Probably not. I can think of a few promos stations have ran such as "the Emergency Rock-casting System", which incorporated the old EBS tones (back when they were still in use).

By the way, Les did ask a related question. Geez.

no les took a simple question and blew it up into a political rant........which is typical of him

He asked if the tones could be used in music in order to wreak havoc on the EAS system. That's a perfectly legitimate question. Yes, he also brought politics into it, but he didn't do so malignantly. You're being hyper-sensitive.

he ALWAYS does so malignantly, josh

read all his posts.............whack-job

Did he insult anyone here? No. Did he malign any one political party? No. Frankly, I found his comment to be amusing... no matter what side of the aisle you're on, the idea of a music group using the EAS tones in their tracks to make a political statement has to, at some level, be funny in an outrageous, that-would-likely-never-happen-but-would-be-sorta-funny-if-it-did kinda way.

By the way, in all the time I've been reading his posts, I've never thought Les to be malignant toward anyone, no matter what their political beliefs. He's always come across to me as someone who, while quite opinionated (and not afraid to share that opinion), can get along with just about anyone. He hasn't posted anything in this thread (or any other thread he's participated in that I've read) to suggest otherwise.

Lighten up. Sheesh.
