Can I record from an internet smooth jazz station and put it on my ipod touch?

Living in Los Angeles and losing 94.7 KTWV A year and a half ago there is not smooth jazz on fm anymore.

At home I listen to SmoothJazz.com through itunes on my computer. In the car I get very frusterated flipping through the dial being unable to find anything I want to listen to.

I want to know if I can record smoothjazz.com from itunes and put it on my ipod touch.

I don't have a smartphone.

There's an app for that. It's called TuneIn Radio Pro. It costs 99 cents. You can listen to and record thousands of radio stations and web streams from around the world. There are many Smooth Jazz streams to choose from. I happen to like columbusjazzradio.com Also, check out the associated web site tunein.com . If the stream you are looking for is not available, you can ask them to add it.

Some of the programs used on computers to edit audio files will capture whatever sound is coming through your computer. If you are streaming a radio station, that can be captured with the software. I use TOTAL RECORDER which is a relatively inexpensive piece of software. www.highcriteria.com.

You may already have some other software that will capture a stream.

I downloaded TuneIn RadioPro about 3 months ago. It is great and easy to use! I just keep my ipod touch in the dock and leave the TuneInRadio app open, and it does all the work. If you forget to leave the app open, it will alert you at the preset time for the recording and give you the option of whether you want to go ahead and record or not. I have the app set to record in the wee hours of the morning while I'm asleep. I get up the next day, grab it out of the dock and get in the car with it. When I'm not driving, I can unplug it from the car stereo and once I resume listening to the recording, it will remember exactly where I left off. I can also advance the program back and forward in time with it, too. Once I get done with the recording, I merely delete it and set another one in its place. The only thing I don't really care for is that, although I can save several recorded programs on my ipod at once, it will only allow one program to be recorded at a time. It would be nice if I could set multiple programs to record at various times throughout the day.

I might have mentioned this before here, but I don't remember. I was like SJFAN, couldn't find anything on the radio, so this is what I did. First, I found this program online called Freecorder, it allows you record any sound (or music) on your computer for thirty mintues at a time. Once I had a collection of them, (I have a few from all the smooth jazz stations, including some that have flipped in the last couple of years) I took the MP3 files and move them to my MP3 player, (I pretty sure you can put them on other music players) and I got a cheap FM Transmitter from Big Lots. After I plug my FM Transmitter into my MP3 player, I set the station which I set on the FM Transmitter (I try to use a frequency, that doesn't have a station that already on it.) then you're set.

I like listening to KYSJ, WSJW, the wav and others in the car. ;D

Audacity works great and it's a free download.

Forget CrApple I-Tunes and Total Recorder and any other payware, just use VLC instead (see https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/VLC_media_player and http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ ). It has a stream grabber, which is what I use when I need to get my time-shifted jazz fiz from The Wave through my PDA. It's free/open source and yes, it's also available for Window$.

Because KKJZ and its contemporary, KIJZ, went tits-up far too many years ago!

@nock--
Does Audacity also have a direct stream grabber or do you have to use an analogue loop?

I just pin cord the headphone jack to the input jack and hit record on Audacity.

Yup, that's analogue looping. That's also how I used to do it before I started using VLC. (Then I discovered the sound quality is significantly better when you download the stream directly. Of course, the $#¡7ty cheap bargain sound card I was using then didn't help either.)
