i saw this on fmqb http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=320494 and john mainelli gets his panties in a buch calling stern a liar for going on letterman and saying sirius is at 6mill subs. so he goes as far to send an e-mail to cry about it?
and today guess what sirius subs are at? anyone anyone? thats right over 6mil!

im sick of people like him (and he is by far not the only one) of radio "pros" who spend all day discrediting what satilite radio is doing by sending out false stories about how its failing/losing money/people cancelling/ect instead of trying to find a good way to keep their own listeners.

if they spent half as much time/money/effort in trying to make there own product better they wouldnt have to worry what sirius and xm are doing. but noooooooo radio needs to take out ad's to discredit satilite have paid speakers at convetions to tell of how bad satilite is.

it is unbeliveable that this is going on because every company is now run by suits who know nothing about what their listners want and spend all day shuffling things around to make it look like there doing something and patting themselfs on the back.

sterns not beating you, your beating yourselfs

just keep playin that fiddle while everything burns around you!

Nahhh -- his specialty is Hot Button Radio

Maybe he can apply for his old job at WABC when Phil Boyce is rewarded with a cushy job at ABC corporate.

OTOH Mainelli might want to hire Claudia Perry of the Newark Star-Ledger as APD. She always makes sure to name-check him -- and never utters the fact that Mainelli was fired from the New York Post for cause.

Mainelli and Stern's feud isn't likely to end soon.

Don't think Citadel will do that for Boyce.

Speaking of panties in a bunch....

Mainelli is in the business of shooting his mouth off.
Sure radio broadcasters are going to minimize the potential of satellite radio.
TV broadcasters did the same with cable.
AM broadcasters did the same with FM.
Movie studios did the same with TV.
Railroads did the same with air travel.

Mainelli is a cheer-leader for radio industry denial. And he gets paid well for shilling that viewpoint. That puts him ahead of somebody like Dr. Sniffles who shills for free, just so he can hang out around radio people and go on once a year.

Radio people will wake up and smell the coffee and take over satellite radio.
Or they won't.

SDRMatt:

Your reading comprehension pains me. Mainelli called Stern on - correctly, BTW - going on Letterman and said they added six million subs in one year, since he started on Sirius.

Which is inaccurate.

Mainelli's point was that Sirius added 6 million subs since Howard announced his deal with Sirius, which was 2 years ago. Two totally different things.

I think Free-FM has already come a long way since Mainelli's come on board. I'm listening to it, and I was a 24/7 satellite listener.

Satellite radio will be over within 5 years and all radio will be on the internet.

Wrong.

Internet radio didnt happen ten years ago when it was supposed to have been the next big thing along with the mini disc. If it has not happened by now it wont happen five years from now. There will always be peoplee who are technophobes who just want it simple. AM and FM.

Net radio will make more gains the more portable and simple it becomes. There's already a portable Internet radio that works with WiFi and Internet to your car dash is coming a lot sooner than five years from now. You'll see any stream of audio you can get on the net will be there in your car, then you can choose anything from the BBC to KCRW in LA to Triple J or Nova in Australia. That might change things quite a bit for all forms of radio, FM and satellite.
