Can Megyn Kelly compete with 60 minutes?

As of this posting, I have not seen her debut show on NBC. However, the east and central has. I predict she will win tonight just to the newness of it all, but longterm can she really beat 60 Minutes? Nobody has been able to do that on a consistent basis for almost 50 years!

Not likely. I'm not sure that is the expectation. I'm not sure NBC had a coherent plan for how to utilize her nor have they developed one since hiring her.

The highest profile assignment they have is the Evening News Anchor followed by the Today show host team.

She won't be replacing Lester Holt, so unless they plan to let Savannah Guthrie go, it seems they really overpaid for her. She may end up with the Prime Time 8 PM slot on MSNBC. That really would seem to be the most logical spot for her.

Isn't there a risk in giving her any MSNBC exposure, let alone the network's prime time slot, after all her time at Fox News? Wouldn't a good portion of the viewership base be wary of accepting her? It almost seems like a pro wrestling scenario in which a hated "heel" suddenly turns "face," but nobody is really sure of his sincerity -- and often, that scenario results in another good guy taking a chair to the head from the "ex"-heel when he least expects it!

So far I haven't seen any discussion of placing her on MSNBC. They launched her Sunday night show last night with a highly publicized Putin interview. She did live shots on Today and Nightly News to promote it. She's getting the 9AM slot on Today at some point. That's all I've seen.

She apparently beat 60 Minutes last night, although that show was running repeats:

60 Minutes is an institution, and runs the most interesting stories, IMO - of any TV "news magazine." The widest variety of stories, too. Most of the competing shows go for the lowest common denominator - true crime stories, catching child predators, etc. I didn't see Megan's show, but if its typical NBC sensationalistic crap, I won't be watching

Greta Van Sustren was the one that moved from Fox News to MSNBC 6 months ago.

An interview with a foreign head of state on issues of importance seems like a solid start.

I watched it thought it was just like Dateline to me just my opinion. I'm not going to watch every week I'll watch next week for the Erin Andrews interview.

Based on my initial viewing, I think I will watch 60 minutes live, and DVR Megyn. Her first segment with Putin was strong, but it became very "datelineish" after, IMO.

Looks like 60 Minutes won. With all the hype of this premiere, the fact that she was beaten by 60 Minutes does not bode well for this show.

On the other hand, she won the 25-54 group, which means 60 Minutes has more older viewers. Which is typical for CBS.

The Daily Show did a rant on Megyn Kelly and basically the rant was funny though. Megyn Kelly is trying to move on from her past though but the joke was on Megyn Kelly when the Daily Show looked at Megyn Kelly's stint at Fox News. Kelly was viewed as the Tomi Lahren of the Obama era. I remember Jon Stewart did segments on Megyn Kelly as a Fox News talk host and he viewed her as insane the timeframe had to be when Glenn Beck was using the Infowars playbook at Fox News.

Megyn Kelly the NBC edition I say the Putin interview is a start and also how many non-Trump people will continue to watch the NBC edition of Megyn Kelly is still an open question here.

That's a misrepresentation of that Daily Show clip. They showed what is typical cable news programming; host and guest arguing and yelling at each other, now that shes on network tv she wants to be peaceful.

But anyways, she will get viewers from her Fox News show to offset any that wont watch her because she was at Fox. I'm not so sure she is a big enough name to host her own daytime and Sunday night show, That's alot going on for one person.

Jackie Levin has been assigned to be the Executive producer for Megyn Kelly's show's on NBC.

Megyn Kelly has selected TV veteran Jackie Levin to be the executive producer of her upcoming NBC morning show that will debut in the fall, NBC News Noah Oppenheim announced to staffers on Friday.

Oppenheim detailed the decision on an email to colleagues that was obtained by TheWrap.

“Having worked closely with Jackie these last two years, I know she’s one of the most talented and hardest-working producers in television news. In her current role as Senior Producer in charge of series, special projects and books, Jackie leads a team that produces an enormous amount of content on TODAY. Her intimate knowledge of the brand will be invaluable as we launch Megyn’s show under the TODAY umbrella,” he wrote.

Oppenheim continued: “Over her 29-year career, Jackie has been responsible for some of the network’s biggest bookings of all time–from presidents to pop stars– and has senior-produced some of TODAY’s most ambitious events, including all three Rokerthons, which are as logistically complicated as it gets. Jackie encourages her team and colleagues alike to push the limits, and to produce compelling television that is fresh and exciting. I know she will bring all of these same qualities to the new hour.”

Kelly’s upcoming show, which will air at 9 a.m. ET on weekdays, also announced Christine Cataldi as its co-executive producer after a 20-year run at “Today” and MSNBC.

“She knows how to tell stories that connect and inspire, which will be particularly relevant in her new role,” Oppenheim said.
