Can Somebody Flip or Launch & Open up some jobs

Man This market as been way to calm for way to long. seems like when a stations changes.. they barely even change the music and mostly remaing in the same format.

I just think this city is to big to be this radio boring. where are the jobs.. where is the competition?? barely anyone is competing. Are all the GM's playing golf and hanging out together saying... hey I'll stay in my lane if you stay in yours and we will all be #1 in our format.

Are there any signs of a new station.... or a real flip???? I mean it isn't even any rumors anymore sheesh? at least that gave us hope!

welcome to radios lamest major market. ripe for a real shake up, but managed by risk averse weenie-boys.

I know!!! I haven't seen any excitement round here (and in this room) for a good while now. The "authorities" that run the stations need to learn that some things just have to change... and sometimes change isn't a bad thing.

I just read where 4 of the top 10 billing stations in the nation are all news! 3 of the 4 all news stations are owned by CBS, in major markets.

CBS, it's past time you did something with your Houston properties.

sad sad sad... i really think these guys are talking to each other and really saying..."if you stay in your format ..I will stay in mines... no competition means #1 in each perspective fromat...which means bonuses for the GM'S and PD's and layoffs for the staff.

its crazy.. that even the post on this site have gotten boring... there is nothing to even talk about anymore.

and wow at the news stations being top billing...

I just wish I knew an investor... there are toooo many stations in the market that make tons of cash and are #1 only b/c they have nooo competition... i mean look under the ratings tab at houston's top 5 station in cume... neither really has any competition.

sad sad sad

the all news stations may be top billing in many markets, but they likely also are the top costliest to run, so they may not be the most profitable. Although I would love to see an all news station here. At least KUHF has stepped up with local news coverage as KTRH ramps it down, and KUHF should be increasing news after the purchase of KTRU is finalized

The old adage, "you've got to spend money to make money" applies to all news. When we got into the Cheap Channel mode of management where costs and and people are seen as liabilities, news stations such as KTRH became the pretenders they are today.

You think maybe they'll drop NPR when they do? Imagine. Local news. (Beatles song"Imagine" inserted here)

Just the opposite. You'll see more NPR (and other public radio networks) programming on KUHF after the relaunch. A lot of material has never been on the air in Houston. KUHF will concentrate on spoken word programming, while all the music goes to KUHC.

Still will be plenty of news on 88.7.

You would think CBS would want to do more with KLOL. For the love of God drop the spanish format already! Leave the spanish programming to Univision and Liberman. There is a lot more money to be made with a channel like 101.1

I say bring another R & B (has only been one R&B station in this city since 2005) or even a urban to compete with radio-one. Believe or not Boxx is only in the top 5 b/c there is no where for anyone who likes hip hop to go to. The rotatation is extremely tight or just plain on repeat.

KLOL wa the jam but somone else in the market would have to leave... didnt 106.9 just go rock or someone else just flipped or tweeked to compete with the buzz

No jazz station here but i'm not sure jazz makes great $

i think there are enough country stations.. either way whatever 101 could be bring us some excitement to the market. and I agree with leaving the spanish to univision. They have to many station for 101 to try to compete with. WIN WITH OTHER DOLLARS!

Everyone keeps saying change it to a money making format. Note to you bankers out there: Their Spanish format is making more money than the Rock format ever made! I hate it too and wish for the old Runaway Radio KLOL days, but aint happenen'.

adguy, while I agree with you that Mega makes money doing what it's doing right now, I disagree with you on your statement that Mega makes more money than Rock 101 ever did. That is simply inaccurate. KLOL once made money hand over fist and sent several other competitors to their graves in its heyday.

Agreed. I also think that a news format could work with an AM/FM pair.
