Can someone do something about these 2 stations?

KJAZ Point Comfort and KEZB Edna TX both have great coverage, but is just sitting out there Silent. I think they could do great with either a Bob Jack format, and maybe even open up a new Hiphop format for Victoria. I wish someone will buy them and make something happen!

I wouldn't get your hopes up, at least not yet. Someone is buying KEZB 96.1, as noted here recently. Radio Ink reported the news: Kalil Holding Company is acquiring KMBV-FM Navasota, KEZB-FM Edna, KYKM-FM Yoakum and KHLT(AM)/KTXM-FM Halletsville from Fort Bend Media Broadcasting and LaGrange Broadcasting, both of which are controlled by Roy Henderson. Once the deal closes, Kalil & Co. will then immediately list the stations for sale. (Notice that KJAZ is not on the sale list.) KEZB probably won't return to the air until after that happens.

From a coverage standpoint I disagree about 96.1, which has always put a pretty marginal signal into Victoria. KJAZ 94.1 had far better coverage, but they have a construction permit for a new antenna that's further away from Victoria. They've also got a silent STA for "technical" reasons, and it's unclear when they'll be back on.

KEZB service area (never mind that it still shows the old call letters, KGUL):
www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM274212.html
Currently licensed KJAZ service area: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM270723.html
KJAZ (CP) service area: www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/FMTV-service-area?x=FM1160495.html

As for what format KEZB will eventually have under new ownership hip hop might not be out of the question, but I don't look for Bob or Jack. With KJAZ I wouldn't even speculate.

From a sales standpoint, it wil be hard to sell ads on each of those stations given the coverage area. Both cover rual communities with a small number of retailers. In order for it to work, they will have to be extremly "community driven", with local jocks that know the lay of the land. Possibly airing ag reports, area HS sports etc, and selling packages around them.

Those areas are also served by Victoria, Bay City and some Houston stations, which means allot of competition for the listeners affections.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but it will take someone with deep pokets that is willing to work at it for years before making a real profit. ........just my opinion, take it for what it's worth..

I think you hit the nail on the head there Radio Girl. Its obvious that KEZB did not have anyone interested in being local or doing what it takes. That kind of dedication and hard work bleeds straight down from the top.

At least now KEZB will have a chance to come alive and be successful .... finally!
