Can WBZ change that awful News set please?

It's actually the reason I don't watch them for news. To me the set looks awful. So in my head I think the quality of the news will be bad. I realize this is warped logic. But it doesn't matter what kind of logic it is. I also don't want to watch something that I think is horrible to look at. I bet that I'm not the only one who changes the channel for that reason.

The sad thing is, it's better than it was a year ago! There was discussion of redoing the entire set for a newsroom backdrop environment. However, with the economy and possibility of the BZ broadcast center being sold to Harvard, it seems as though the long-term plans/ideas were put on hold.

It wouldn't hurt to post a curiosity, tweet, or e-mail someone there for info, though.

Wow... this is the first I've heard of any kind of possibility of that place being sold. I must have missed that one. If that did happen is there talk of where they would go?

I like WBZ's set...OK, well I guess I'm used to Providence stations. Though I do think the weather set looks pretty bad.

WCVB and WHDH have much nicer sets. Even Fox 25 has better. I think Providence has better sets than WBZ as well. WBZ used to have a great set. But once they switched to HD they threw together something crazy.

I live in western Massachusetts where our primary TV market is Albany NY. However we are able to receive via Time Warner cable WBZ, and WCVB out of Boston. I will assure you that even the Albany Stations in the 63rd highest market have far better news sets than WBZ in the 7th highest market. WCVB has the best set I have ever seen as well as graphics and anchors for a local station. How can WBZ get any ratings at all with the news set they have. I have seen better sets in the 60's out of Albany. That set is a disgrace for an CBS O&O station.

You are right on! WHDH has a very good set as well. But WBZ's looks like sh*t. It's really to bad. That station used to be the best!

When WBZ was planning on going HD, they asked their audience to "vote" (if it was used or not, who knows) to go HD now with a set refurb, or wait a bit and totally revamp the set - needless to say with WCVB and WHDH already in HD, they were pressured to get things done.

They did say that in the future a new HD set would come - but it could be a few years off!

I'll admit, WHDH's "refresh" was well, quite a bit more than a refresh, still has the best overall combo (set/picture quality/graphics) in Boston personally - WCVB is second, only as their graphics package is terrible (quite blurry, might even be upscaled SD, don't quote me on that one however!) WFXT's picture is still very soft, their set is decent, but the soft picture kills it. In studio WBZ looks decent, but the lack of even a HD open is disappointing.

WBZ shouldn't have left the voting in the viewers hands. Viewers probably thought a quick solution would look ok. Boy.. were they Wrong! WBZ's set looks like a smurf stopped by and threw up all over it.

Enough BZ-bashing. They do a great job, IMO. Their viewer-oriented approach is one that has been catching on not only in this market, but nationwide. I might be in the minority, but I don't really mind their current set. I do, however, think that they should have their opening in HD; their opening is atleast in 16x9 on the design company's website (http://www.vdo.tv/).

Plus, in this economy, would you rather them spend a big amount of money on a set that isn't needed at this time and lay off someone, or settle with the current-updated set for a while?

Letterman showed a clip of WBZ News tonight. I feel bad that the rest of the country had to look at that throw up they call a set. BTW... the reason Letterman showed a clip is because one of the crack news anchors on WBZ did a story and mentioned "The Tonight Show with David Letterman". Yes you heard me right. "The Tonight Show" with David Letterman.

So don't worry about me bashing WBZ. Letterman did it tonight in his own special way, complete with a Big red Family Feud style X over the News anchors face and a loud Buzzer. So much for their doing a great job. They can't even get the name of one of their programs correct. The Tonight Show with David Letterman. How sad.
