Can WCIT Lima finally upgrade?

Montreal's CINW (the former CBC-owned CBM) has been off the air now since earlier this year and their license was returned to the CRTC and cancelled. Will this present an opporitunity for WCIT to upgrade and be on equal par with competitor WIMA?

Can other stations at 940 AM also get to finally upgrade?

(WIDG,located way up I-75 on the other side of the Mackinac Bridge in the Michigan U.P. comes to mind as well.)

No. The Canadian government will continue to "notify" the FCC that it has priority on the channel, and U.S. stations will continue to have to protect it.

OOPS!

Forgot about them CBS folks at 950 up in Dee-troit

My bad....touche!

(Mind you their directional signal barely misses the area north of Lima and Ft. Wayne...since it aims up north towards Alpena.)

Well, if they did at least "attempt" to raise the power on a more full-time level at some point soon, that wouldn't surprise me at all considering that they're about to spin the format wheel again over there for what I believe is the second time in less than 18 months from Oldies to Talk (at least, from what I've heard "on the street")...therefore, setting themselves up to try and compete with WIMA as a gentleman made a comment about earlier in this thread.

If they do decide to do that, they have a long and very difficult road ahead of them. WIMA has Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, a local morning show that does relatively well, and Sean Hannitty (they have others, I just can't think of them all off the top of my head).
What could Maverick possibly get to compete with those powerhouses if they are indeed flipping it?... that's going to be tough!

no,No NO! Not another change for AM 940 PLEASE!

WCIT tried talk in the 90s before switching to R&B 940 JAMZ. The Limaland african-american commuity was snubbed when The Duchess was dumped for sattellite programming and the format later dropped.

We no longer have The Big Buck. Ron Williams does the afternoon talk show on 'CIT competing with the arch-con ranters so leave it as it is. Leave this format and WCIT's Top forty heritage alone!

Maybe, if the 1941 NARBA treaty was somehow reopened and revised to take the Canadian AM situation into consideration. But there's no chance in hell that will ever happen.

Besides, there are a plethora of daytime-only class D stations on 940. If the clear channel assignment to Montreal ever went away, the second that occurs, a flood of applicants will appear requesting higher night power. The 940 frequency could turn into a graveyard channel by that alone.
