Seeing this in 2009 is like someone coming up to me tomorrow and saying "did you know Jay Leno has been doing a night show on tv?" In other words, it's old news.
However, I'd say at least WBTS is pretty much doing a good job at staying true to their rhythmic label format, regardless of the fact that a few things are missing. Glad to see "written on her" by Birdman is still doing well over there, and oddly enough, Jason Mraz, too. I'd say WVEE has always been on top of their game the most out of all there. Atlanta radio is lacking, but I'm pretty sure if you're a fan of the urban sound, then you're pretty content.
Rhythmic radio hits that I'm enjoying right now off the top of my head:
"sexy chick" - David Guetta ft Akon
"la la la" - LMFAO
"whatcha say" - Jason DeRulo
"written on her" - Birdman
"meet me halfway" - Black Eyed Peas
"replay" - Sean Kingston
"Good girls go bad" - Cobra Starship
"down" - Jay Sean
"Empire state of mind" - Jay-Z ft Alicia Keys
"knock you down" - Keri Hilson
"outta here" - Esmee
"give it all you got" - Lil Jon
"sweet dreams" - Beyonce
"evacuate the dancefloor" - Cascada
"shots" - LMFAO ft Lil Jon
Songs I'm beginning to like:
"she wolf" - Shakira
"outta control" - Baby Bash ft Pitbull
"3" - Britney
So in other words, I'm rather content with all that we have on the rhythmic side where I live at the moment. Not to brag, but our lite rock/adult ac/adult mix, country, rock, oldies, mexican, and latin rhythm stations are pretty much on point too. B98.5 can't even compare... And our Jazz seems to be hanging in there, but alternative is lacking somewhat. We don't have urbans like Atlanta, however we have about 6 or more stations to choose from where you can hear hip hop, including our classic hip hop which is nothing but hip hop hits from 1985-2004, mainly focusing on 1995-2003.
I'm wishing the best for Atlanta when it comes to everything else outside of the urban sound. There is hope for Atl because just 10 years ago today, I couldn't say all that I'm saying about Phoenix now. If we can change this much and catch up, then Atl can, too. Keep in mind, hip hop was even banned in Az radio in the mid 90's and we still managed to get where we're at today in the top 40 / rhythmic sound. Message here, no matter how bad it may all seem to be, there is hope, and I'm sure eventually after enough posts in the Atl section keep popping up, someone will "wake up" and be the "hero" to act and make a change.
Could you imagine if this happened;
PERSON A: I'm so sick of his dumb ass and his postings about his Arizona and California stations and WPOW and everyone else complaining about ATL.
PERSON B: Well then what are you going to do about it?
PERSON A: I've decided we should just make all our ATL stations so much better and incomparable to everywhere else just to make everyone shut up!
...Well, you've got to admit - crazier things have happened in this world!
