Can we limit the e-skip threads to one per day?

nd2023

I know that there's e-skip nearly every day for the past couple of weeks, but it would be better to have all the e-skip threads organized by day instead of by region, as e-skip affects half the country at the same time.

And also, if you're the first person of the day to notice an e-skip opening, immediately make a thread about it so that we all will know that the ionosphere is active that day.

Another good idea is to make two each summer day: E-skip in The West and E-skip in the East. That way we can know where most logs come from.

I think that's a great idea.

The first person to report E skip for any given day should also start the thread with the date first like 7/5/2010 - Good E Skip in (fill in the blank for your location and area reception originates from).

Now if it's really incredible DX, that's different. If you receive
England or Japan on FM in the USA by all means don't bury your
find in a thread of mediocre DX reports.

And, not all DX setups are created equal. A guy with a whip antenna
is wowed when he gets a 50 KW FM 100 miles away. A man with a
beam, rotor, and tower gets triple the distance on a regular basis and
is not impressed.

I'll summon the Rules Committee of the Fantastic Word Game to offer additional regulations.

Be it hereby resolved-olved-olved,
On behalf of the Rules Committee-tee-tee, as we are celebrating the holiday for our Independence from tyranny-anny-anny [long may freedom reign!], we find that you are free-ee-ee to make up any e-skip-ip-ip dx reports as you deem necessary-ary-ary, but please follow Nick's request-est-est, and limit your reporting-ing-ing to one thread-ead-ead per day-ay-ay.

The Flying Dutchman-an-an's codicil regarding extraordinary distances-ances-ances also shall be enforced-orced-orced.

Vibe (me) is incredibly stressed. Take what I write w/ a grain of salt.
E skip is like intercourse; happens a lot at certain times of the year and not a lot at other times. Won't discuss it any further but offhand, I get my share.
BUT E skip IS a very common phenenom. I'd like to read posts of double hops and/or 1400mi + catches. Any person driving in their car can get e- skip under the right conditions.
I've got a few catches and have really enjoyed them; but i don't have to share them ALL the time.
I'm more proud of getting KFI from the IN-OH line with a semi crappy Bose Wave last Labor Day. Or getting the Beaumont TX 560 on AM at least 2.5 hrs after local sunrise near Ocala FL. Or getting KCRA2-3 hours after local sunrise and 2-3 hours before local sunset from Englewood FL on an awful car radio. I think crainbo's AM catches and gar's long distance catches on AM are more rare and more interesting.... Apologies to those excluded-certainly not intentional.
And don't correct my run on sentences and or granmeer....

I agree with you Vibe. I've always found DX on AM more fun than FM skip.

Both AM and FM are the same on the fun level.

PS: I uploaded a new thread about big Es today! Check it out!

Well, maybe we should also be allowed to have one d-skip thread per day!

Equal time for AM!

Bump, since the ionosphere got active this past couple of days, I saw multiple posts about the same e-skip opening.

I say, then, just like the threads like the Frequency of the Week, howzabout "E-Skip Today xx/xx/xxxx [<--date]" or "Tropo Today xx/xx/xxxx"....and then have folk post on THAT thread, if it is the same day....works for me.

So someone makes a E-skip East Coast Thread, People on te East Coast Post on it

Ah, but where do we draw the line? The Mississippi? What about those places in MN & LA that are muddied? <shrug>

Also, radio-info is not limited to U.S. members! I'd be happy to read reports from other places!

I agree with Vibe. E-skip boring and not possible in places like Orlando. There are too many LPFM's everywhere. All the frequencies are full. AM is more interesting.

Instead of starting separate threads, I've been adding to my original labelled 'Ottawa'. As far as regular posters go, I'm sitting the furthest north and (besides a couple of other members) the furthest east. This way, if anyone's interested, you can take a gander at where I'm catching stuff from (Friday it was central Florida, yesterday the Mid-West) and if you happen to be in that neck of the woods, you can try for stations here in Ontario. We could pile everything into one thread, but then we'd have pages filled with 'Frequency of the week', like we've been having until this latest E-skip out break. ;)

I agree that AM DX for me is a lot more interesting, but I don't mind hearing about FM skip.

I'm basically an AM guy myself, but all DX is fun... and that goes for FM, SW, LW, TV and anything else there is. Funny thing is, aside from live pbp sports and news broadcasts, I very seldom listen to OTA radio for any reason other than DX. 90% of my "pleasure" listening (including in the car) is streaming radio. (Radio Bop, Martini In The Morning, Richbro...and a few others among my favorites).
