Can you get WQXR?

Northern Westchester - WQXR 105.9 has a very weak signal in Northern Westchester. I have had some success in getting it on a Sony HD radio using an old TV roof top antenna. The problem is there are a lot of dropouts. When this happens the radio automatically goes to the analog signal. In my opinion, this process of switching between the analog and digital signal distorts the music. On the other hand, I can receive WNYC HD-2 which carries WQXR. The sound quality is great. However, every once a while (maybe once every 15 minutes or so) there is a drop out and the signal disappears for a few seconds which is quite annoying. I haven't figured out whether there is a solution to these drop outs.

Well, from what I heard about HD radio is that there is interference to other nearby frequencies, poor signal/coverage, marginal audio quality, operating costs are through the roof, hardly anyone is running out to even get an HD radio..need I say more? There is a solution, however to fix these issues, although no one is making a move to do so.

I do not know whether or not HD Radio interferes with nearby frequencies, or what the operating costs are or whether anyone is buying HD radios (except I bought one two weeks ago). I think you are right about signal coverage. I can get WNYC FM analog without any problems. WNYC HD-2 comes in with drop outs from time to time. As to audio quality - it certainly is not CD quality. But it is quite clear. I would compare it favorably to what I hear on Sirius' classical stations - not CD quality and obviously compressed but actually quite pleasing to listen to. But I guess I should make full disclosure - my ears are 63 years old and maybe that's why it sounds good to me!
