Canada, ND, ID, MT, and WY skips to Lubbock (video)

It's that time of year again! Heard several stations out of Montana this evening.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQlyTZBHSSM

KJAX - Jackson, Wyoming
KGCX - Sidney, Montana
KTHC - Sidney, Montana
KMMS (RDS) - Bozeman, Montana
KTZU (RDS) - Velva, North Dakota
CIZZ - Red Deer, AB (Canada)
KAAK - Great Falls, Montana
KYSS - Missoula, Montana
KWYS (RDS) - Island Park, Idaho
KQRV - Deer Lodge, Montana

Very cool. What does RDS stand for? I'm thinking of buying a Kenwood now.

What part of Lubbock were you in at the time?

Radio Data System enables my stereo to pull in information such as text. So the info you see scrolling on my stereo in the video is RDS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System

Thanks for that information. Also, what part of Lubbock were you in at the time? If you were on the northwest side, maybe that increased your chances of the DXing from Montana. Even if you were on the southeast side, and I know it is just a 20 mile difference on a 1,000-mile scale, but maybe it increased your chances just enough to receive those catches.

I have not had much luck DXing, so I am trying to get all the info on the matter as I can. Maybe South Central Texas isn't the best place for DXing...

Usually the best place for me to DX is on the northwest side. There are less buildings, less power lines, etc. that would cause interference.

And where I live is a great place to DX. Frequencies in West Texas are quite open. More importantly, there are NO HD signals out here that would cause hiss on other frequencies. Therefore when we get a skip, it can be quite spectacular. Tropo can be fun sometimes too. Normally i'll hear Amarillo, Eastern New Mexico, and Midland. But on good days, I can sometimes hear Dallas and Oklahoma City. On really good days, I have received stations as far away as Missouri and Arkansas via tropo. More recently for the first time, I heard Houston in Lubbock.

I will be graduating from Tech in August, however and do not know if I will remain in Lubbock much longer. Hopefully wherever I go, the DXing will be good.
