Canada's CBSC Deems Dire Straits' "Money For Nothing" Lyrics Unethical

http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2011/01/12/16865021.html

Of course, the part of the 25-year-old song that is to blame is the second verse, where Mark Knopfler is singing about (or, rather, visualizing what he would be seeing in a music video on MTV) a "******" and his bling and his wealth.

Of course, many radio stations in the U.S. have already been playing an edited version of this song with that lyric edited out.

I wonder if the CBSC is privy to the Pink Floyd song "Money" yet... ::)

Nothing like retroactive censorship! ::)

I'm still trying to figure out how "ethics" are involved.

The keyboard player for Dire Straits thinks that the censorship of this song is funny. I have to agree... the song was written YEARS ago... and now because of one listener; it's been deemed "inappropriate"?

People need to quit being so sensitive... it's JUST A SONG!

Plus the lyrics are from the viewpoint of the delivery men. IMO, the lyrics itself are a bit tamed compared to what words they would probably use.

Most edits of this song are for time but it's convenient to delete that verse out. Some stations I've heard just edit out the word.
