QC Montreal 940 All Traffic (Cogeco-Transport Quebec)
Both of these applications have been temporarily withdrawn due to opposition from the public and interventions filed by several broadcasters citing that the frequencies could be put to better use. As a result the CRTC has now issued a "calls for applications" for both frequencies inviting other interested parties to submit applications.

So it looks like the 2 Montreal 50kw stations are staying silent. The only activity on the Montreal AM dial appears to be smaller powered minority based stations that probably couldn't afford to run a large signal like those anyways.

I don't think one can reach that conclusion. Other groups have suggested they can make better use of these frequencies -- if the CRTC agrees, one or more of those groups will sign these frequencies back on. If the CRTC disagrees, chances are Cogeco will get the frequencies as originally requested.

The only way they'll remain silent is if the CRTC finds the Montreal market can't economically support the return of these two frequencies. Given the rate they've been approving approving stations elsewhere in the country (and indeed, in Montreal) I see very little chance of that happening.

It has amazed me that CJAD 800 hasn't jumped at any chance for signal improvement. I know that their ratings are decent for an English AM station in Montreal, but with all the stations on 800 at night (heck even a 50 kW AM on 800 in Quebec City, less than 150 miles away), you'd think that CJAD would be licking its chops at 940 or 690.

I am sure there is a French AM that would feel the same way....I just don't follow them like the English ones.

One of the groups filing an opposing intervention was Bell who stated that they would like to move CKGM 990 to 940.

Them, too!

Mainly to take advantage of the fact that 940 is a clear channel while 990 is not (due to CBC stations in Winnipeg and Corner Brook both being clear channels themselves) -- while in Quebec and Ontario in early 2001, I was able to pick up CKGM (when it was an oldies station) to varying qualities between Quebec City and Kingston.

"ON Scarborough 105.9 45 watts (South Asian-Tamil) (Subanasiri Vaithilingham - Tamil One) "

Scarborough fusion radio also wants to go FM. I don't see any trace of their application to the CRTC.

Let's see if the Mega Radio decides to try for the 940 or 690 frequencies, with South Asian taking the other blowtorch!
