Its too bad TSN is going French, it would have had great skywave coverage for nighttime hockey games except for WLW's IBOC effects.

It's not a done deal. It's only a proposed change and there are thousands of interventions filed with the crtc (including one of my own, due to the fact they applied for 690 to better serve the ENGLISH speaking population) against this proposal.

I'm against it for the same reason; Montreal has few English stations and they should not be losing any more (already lost CKO and CINW/CIQC, and CKOI and the late CINF/CKVL used to be bilingual before going all-French). Bell should just sell the station to Rogers, Cogeco, or to an independent operator; with Rogers it would go well with CJNT-TV which they are acquiring, and it could become Sportsnet 690.

If that new English talk station on AM 600 is approved, I would have less of a problem with CKGM switching to French.

I would still have a problem since there was a successful sports station in French (CKAC 730) which short-sighted corporate thinking decided that turning it into an all traffic station was a better idea. Granted they didn't have high numbers either. However it is a fact that Franco sports fans have switched to TSN to get their sports fix. I've read accounts of people doing so on the radio in montreal yahoo page.
