Apple FM?! I'd be surprised if Apple allows a radio station to use that name. They might as well call themselves Google FM.

I had a look at the CFHK application, and they want to move the transmitter into London, on the same tower as BOB FM, FM96, and CFPL TV. The application makes reference to their "studios" in St. Thomas. I sure hope that CRTC doesn't fall for that claim.

So 990 in Montreal wants to move to 980. I wonder if this is because of the directional nightime signal on 990 in order to protect clear channel CBW.

I searched Apple FM and there is a station in the US called KAAP Apple FM in Washington. I don't see what would be wrong with Apple FM, but knowing the aggressive legal nature of Apple, anything is possible. They once went after a apple logo used by New York City a city known as the Big Apple for a lot longer than Apple computer has been around.

I see good ol' CFEP "Seaside FM", is on the march again. When we lived in the Halifax region (actually in Dartmouth, just up the harbour from Eastern Passage), CFEP was cranking out a whopping 50 watts. I jimmy-jammied with a fair amount of antenna wire, to get a good signal from them. I know they're on-line, but I haven't listened to them for a while...perhaps I'll have to tune in and see if they are still as unique as they were, 5-10 years ago. :)

That's probably it. Plus, there's a lot more room on 980 now than there was when CKGM first moved from 980 to 990 years ago. CBV 980 in Quebec City moved to FM, and CKRU 980 Peterborough, Ontario moved to FM, so those allocations no longer need to be protected.

MJ has it exactly right. They'll have a "wider" night time signal area, even with the reduced power. The daytime cuts some of the signal away from us in Ottawa compared to what CKGM had (which was very strong).
