Cancelled show refuses to be Cancelled

As you know, the Strawberry in the Morning show from WILD949 was cancelled in September but according to this website, they refuse to let CC cancel them.

Good for them....I hope they comeback and prove all the bloodletting at CC is NOT the way to do radio.

btw...what was the trend for the t-man morning show on WILD?

i wonder if any station will give them a shot....they did really well in the last book.

They have name recognition in the market and they beat Alice and Live in 18-34

this was one of the best show's since Sway was doing mornings at KMEL - glad to see their back - i hope those losers choke on all the money they saved bringing in the T-Loser.

my 2 cents

I always giggle every time I see someone suggest that bringing the T-Man to the Bay was a "cost cutting" move. The reality is that CC spent more than 10 times as much as they had been spending on mornings to get the new show.

I spoke to people close to the negotiatons and confirmed what I already knew. In order to get T-Man in the Bay and keep him away from CBS they had to pay him a staggering amount of guaranteed cash.

As I look at the T-Man arbitron trend for the month of October in the Bay I see solid numbers. Typically a new show will trend downward for the first 3-6 months no matter how good the show is but that didn't happen here. (not that it won't)
The month was the second biggest month that the morning slot has had out of the past nine on the record.
I'm looking forward to seeing if The T-Man show takes a hit in the Seattle ratings, as I am suspecting may happen, as a result of these changes.

Clear Channel may be paying T-Man big bucks, but it's all about growing a national show, not creating local programming. And I'm willing to bet that CCSF's share of the salary is STILL below what they were paying Strawberry & Fay...

You would lose that "bet" badly. If CCSF is paying 50% of the cost of the T-Man show (and I'm guessing they're paying at least that) then their end would be somewhere between 1-2 million per year.
I would venture a guess of about 200k is what they were paying the previous show duo mainly because they did a music intensive show from what I understand. If I'm inaccurate and someone has better information on what the Strawberry show was making please feel free to inform because I love discussing radio talents salaries. They should be listed publicly like athletes or a movie star.

I know JV and Elvis were making near 1 million ($999,000) they also had a LARGE buget for stunts... and producer. I would imagine the T-MAN is making at least that much in San Fran. as well as 700,000 + in seattle. I to wish these figures would be public info.... I know Ron owens at KGO is RAKING in the cash the past 3 years ....... wait for his new contract he may become the highest paid Bay area broadcast figure. (currently Dennis richmond and Dan Ashley)

Your information is incorrect. The Doghouse was a two million dollar morning show. That's how Elvis was able to buy a pricey North Beach house. I doubt that the CC SF folks are paying even a million towards T-Man. The 700 grand range is more like it. Contracts have dropped in the last few years from what they were. Even Don Bleu had to take a substantial cut from what he was previously making (and is still making a ton of money.)

I am suprised I am worng when i heard / saw these figures straight from the horse's mouths. Maybe i was hung Over LOL or maybe they were each making a mill + I think I agree that they deserved 2 Million however that has alot to do with why they arn't there now. The station couldn't fathem paying them what they were worth. The Comedy Jam it's slef would have paid 1/2 their annual salary!

I wouldn't doubt i was feed incorrect info.... however i HIGHLY doubt they were in a 2 million dollar contract !

The Dog House defintely was around the 2 million mark if not more...

One morning, they read off their salaries, and this was before their last deal was struck, so my guess is 3-5 years ago. JV was around 750,000...Elvis about 600,000 and Hollywood about 500,000. All in that ballpark although not the exact figures.

I am sure they commanded more money when they negotiated their last contract, as well as making sure Ruthie got her due.

Hollywood, who is reportedly a stay home Dad is living fine as far as we can tell so I am sure he has had some money saved in the bank.

Any chance they come back anytime soon by the way?

...better chance that the Dog House will be on the beach or selling used cars soon.

Your funny "sell the numbers" What is it you have against the Doghouse? I know a few months back you had "breaking news" that they were gonna be fired VERY soon from FREE FM New York. I think you claim to me Mark Cherrnoffs "right hand man"?

Don't know what your issue is Mr. Martin but GET OVER IT!

1. I'm a woman
2. I live in NYC but have ties to The Bay and other areas on the west coast.
3. I stand by my statement; the Dog House were going to get canned but got a reprieve (for now) because Mark Chernoff decided to relinquish his duties and he went back full time to WFAN.
4. Happy Holidays

I will not be able to respond to any further comments for at least 24 hours as I will be traveling.

How come you did not say you are AE for WFNY , which you stated before. You said you were also not able to sell any ads for the Doghouse and you knew for a fact that they would not be resigned. You worked hand and hand with Chernoff and were the only one at WFNY that knew anything. So lets start by saying you are full of shit and post every once and awhile about the Doghouse and how they are getting fired. I know that all the AE's at WFNY sit in with the GM and PD to make up the station line-up. You better get back to NY, because WFNY is really missing you.

Now as per the Dog House salaries, JV mentioned on air that they were being paid over $1 million each and then it went up. That is why they did not move to LA when they were offered a gig in LA.

NO nead to respond.... I hope your not right, i think the Doghouse have really showed in the last 2 months how strong they are. I am sorry, i was using a medifore when i said "right hand man" One would think if you new the doghouse was getting fired you would have know mark was moving on? He made a smart choice to leave Free.... for all persons involved.... I hope your travel goes safe and your holidays are wonderfull!

This talk of salary is EXACTLY why they went down hill.

Anytime a show talks about this stuff on the air they become removed from their target audience and no longer relatable.

As a listener...who wants to hear that? Anytime i hear it, i cringe because i can hear the listeners punching out

People still go to movies? People still pay stupid money for sports? People spend hard earn money to see this and you think they turn on a radio for FREE and get scared away because they make more money? Not sure if i see the logic!

the logic lies in relatability.

Sure someone like Howard could talk about doing certain things but he NEVER talked about money and being rich like some of these other guys tend to do. O & A and JV & Elvis don't have the leeway of Stern to do this. They NEED to make their listeners think they are just like them, underpaid working stiffs who are trying to get by. Stern had a way of not rubbing that stuff in the listeners face whereas it seems the others don't realize how it sounds to listeners when they mention the "millions' they make. It just kills the connection.

just my thoughts on it

Don & Mike had a great article years ago in R&R about this. It was their take (and I happen to agree) that when you got into the big bucks, moved into the gated community, bought the Porsche, etc. you lost touch with your average listener. Their advice was to stay in the middle class 'hood, so you could relate to the regular folks that listen.

Funny thing is I TOTALY agree also.... Just confusing how people THINK! I guess if it wasn't confusing this would be a boring place to live!
