Cannibalizing Spanish numbers.

One Spanish FM, and WNUE, technically a rimshotter from the Space Coast that wasted most of its life uselessly targeting Daytona leads head and shoulders in the ARBs.

Two Spanish FMs, and neither one is making an impact...Both are essentially tanking, at least in 12+....Maybe I'm not seeing something in the breakdowns.

Does Orlando have room for just one Spanish FM, but not two??

Comments??

I listen to both stations but I'm not Hispanic and I speak VERY little Spanish so my opinions may be totally wrong. I feel that the "problem" with both of these stations is that they try to be everything to everyone. They play old-school Salsa right along with Reggaeton. That's tantamount to playing Frank Sinatra and 50 Cent side by side. The Reggaeton alienates the older demographic. The younger listeners that I talk to say they don't mind the older stuff but I wouldn't be suprised if they tuned out when it came on. A few of my Hispanic friends don't listen to either station...they listen to WPYO because they like Hip Hop and Reggaeton.

The other thing (to a lesser degree) is that these two stations are primarily Tropical which is targeted at Puerto Rican demographics. There seem to be a good number of Mexicans here (in my area anyway) and they listen to the Mexican station on AM or CD's.

It maybe a rate game not ratings. If you want to mass market to spanish speaking people what are your choices?

Your choices?? From what I understand, two Spanish stations with apparently the same format, they both apparently mix both current (reggaeton/salsa), with older Tropical product...Again, cannibalization.

When Miami was at just 2 FMs initially (1978), WCMQ-FM did ballads, and WQBA-FM leaned tropical, mixing in English Disco. A peaceful coexistence for about 9 years or thereabouts.

I think CC sees a lot of national money out there that the local AMs weren't in a position to access. They're competing with Mega, it's true, but they will kill off at least some of the AMs.<P ID="signature">______________
