You cannot deny that Russ has talent. He has been ripping off the best in the business for over 25 years in Dallas and I am quite sure that when he returns, he will have poached a TON of new material from Howard, Bubba, Kidd, Elvis and the real innovators out there. I read about Dan leaving The Fan...Tree, forest, sound...who cares. If you are telling me that Russ martin is now going to compete in mornings with his tired old act, I am VERY anxious to see this.

Here are some things to consider: No more pyrotechnics, cannot pull that in the Clear Channel building as he could on Carpenter. Chris Ryan is too cool to play along, so is Cindy...AND, she will not be taking his crap the way they did at LIVE. Does anyone REALLY care about Trey, Dan, Everett...(insert hanger-on here, VAL)? Besides me, that is.

Down economy, poor comps, tell me what happens next time Russ ruins a relationship with an advertiser...Hmmmm. I, for one, will be enjoying it.

My prediction: Show is 6am-10am.... show starts at 6:20 after 15 minute intro, at least 30 minutes of combined "dead air" per show. A White Trash Party OR concert with VERY "has been" band like Jackyl or Loverboy, opening band will be an AC/DC cover band. There will be a Batmobile and a Batman themed guitar, tons of Jack. The same 200 construction workers/ pipe fitters will come out and it will be 2004 all over again.

I cannot WAIT!

No jealousy here, Joe. I am an "insider". I make my living in this industry. I know Russ (personal AND professional). Not a "hater", other "insiders" here know this to be true. Russ is not a good person and if he were a comedian, he would be widely referred to as a "hack". I think the folks at CC are grasping for straws and in the process, have done substantial injustice to the radio market here and there will be fallout. Russ will continue to bully a new group of people, cost sellers money, ruin advertiser's reputations and cause greater damage to his station than the benefits he brings.

Russ and his antics will not directly affect me, which is good, but he will hurt friends in the business, which is bad.

I want my industry colleagues to finally say, "enough" of bullies and hacks, but if JD thinks he can raise some money, he has proven, he will deal with the devil to get it. Just keep that clown away from me.
 
well said gspitlive, nail on the head. I posted early that the king is back, but it was with sarcasm. The only thing you left out was the Laughing hyenas. I'm glad he is back on the air, only to see him fail. And no, I don't work in radio.
 
I've heard most of this verbatium in the past from RMS collegues. Good points regarding the other eagle cast. Very good point actually, and Cindy may be the toughest of the bunch. She could prob whip his ass if it came to fistacuffs. I was surprised to read in d morning news, he's keeping the no music at all format. I was also surprised when Eagle broke music format with my boy JC Wolfe. I know JCW's gotten good ratings while breaking format there, maybe KEGL will be a 50% hot talker and 50% rocker?

I'm not sure calling someone a hack, a bully, and saying they will hurt a station and industry people is "promoting" him.

Wonder what CC's temperature for the N word and P word will be? He was pretty loose with the name calling and racist profanity on KLLI.
 
For most people, what Russ's has been through has been kind of a journey. A change to reflect and redeem himself.

(Think "A Christmas Story" or "Its A Wonderful Life" except with Jack, strippers and potty jokes in it.)

But I have a greater chance of Life on Mars than that ever happening.

Bottom line for me: if it were a Cumulus, an Entercom or a Citadel station (well...nix citadel anyway) I'd have my say about it. Its called a stock holder's privledge. But CC is now private.

But with his buyout, CBS is starting to look pretty damn good!

So if CC wants to blow its wad on Mays' airplane privledges and buying out Russ' contract then that's fine.

Actually Dallas is loaded with loads of average talent. Where are the good jocks?

Bo and Jim..Can we put the Hawaiian shirts away?
Kidd..has talent, but would he have a show without TMZ or American Idol?
RM..has talent, but does get repetitve. Then again who doesnt.
Cindy..just because you have a husky voice doesnt equate an entertaining show.
P&K..Who cares?
Feel free to name any other jocks who have a show in the market only because they have been on-air in Dallas for years..
