CANT HEAR DIGITAL MIC THRU AUDITION 'TIL PLAYBACK

Been ripping my hair out trying to get my AKG Perception 120 Mic with MXL Mic Mate XLR to USB adaptor to let me hear what I'm recording. The MXL Mic Mate adaptor has the 48V Phantom power so that's not the problem. Here's the 2 computers I'm using:
I'm running Adobe Audition 3.0 on a Mac Mini with Windows Vista and an Audio4DJ External soundcard.
I'm also using an old Dell with Windows XP running thru an EMU internal soundcard Adobe Audition 1.5. I've looked at output settings & can find nothing. Anyone know what I should do?

Also while I'm at it, is there a way to "start over from scratch" and restore Adobe's default settings without re-installing them? Thanks!!!

nightfly61,
not sure if this will work for you but I had the same problem on my HP533w (cheap walmart special) using an Andrea USB headset/mic with ViaVoice a speech to text program. I had to change volume settings. On the Hp533w there's a speaker icon in the tray section of the taskbar. Under options I had to choose advance controls which created a button under volume, when selected a pop-up window gave you a few selections, my choice was "Digital Output Only" this solved my problem.
My idea for you is to go into you volume control and see what selections you have for both playback and record.

Hope this idea works.

If I understand correctly it sounds like you want to be able to hear yourself while recording with the USB adaptor.

If that is correct - what you want to do likely can't be done.

That's because these "USB adaptors" are - to the computer - another sound card with only recording - not playback - capabilities. The ability to hear what you're recording with a "traditional" sound card is due to audio routing functionality built into the card - functionality that usually isn't included with USB mics or mic adapters.

M_C's advice is correct. Open Volume Control, select your USB mic and see if there's any playback settings available. If not - you can't monitor in real time with just the USB mic.
