Although I now live in Florida, I was born and raised in Wooster. I am now 53 years old.
Both the AM and FM stations began life as WWST. Radio Wooster AM 960 was a blend of locally played lighter contemorary music with a lot of local information shows mixed in. During the 1980's the station went to satellite fed music and hasn't changed back. First it was Adult Contemporary, then Christian and then in the late 1980's what it is now, oldies. When they switched the music to oldies is when they changed the call letters to WKVX.
Radio Wooster FM 104.5 has only had two music formats. When it was WWST, they played elevator music. When they changed to country, the call letters changed to WQKT.
Radio Wooster has been home to great talent before they became famous. Do names like John Belmont, Jeff Elliot, Randall Carlisle, Bill Jaycocks or Robert W. Morgan ring any bells? Those voices and a lot more have graced the airwaves of Radio Wooster at one time or another.
