Never really see to much on here about it. Anything new happen on the Dune in the last couple of months? By the way, Hello from Myrtle Beach, SC?

It's beautiful down here, and fairly warm.. come on down!

Hey Rick ...

Hope you are doing well down there in SC. Any good local access tv down there ?!?

I was back on the Cape over the holidays and noticed ...

- Pixy is playing lots more classic rock and FRANK FM is rolling on without a PD
- There are some new female jocks on the Rose that sound pretty good.
- I guess WCOD was mostly all Christmas for awhile ... but are back to AC stuff now. They have a new voice guy, too.
- Still no idea who is buying The Rocket ... but does anyone still listen to that station?

Hmm ... I guess that is it. Nothing too exciting - maybe that is why there hasn't been too much banter on here about the Cape.

Take it easy,
Liam

Well, I still listen to the Rocket , and must say I love the way they have expanded the depth of cuts they play....and the weekend day guy is good. Personality and some depth to his schtick.Real interesting to listen to.

Broken Headphones, if you're talking about the jock on The Rocket after 10am Saturday morning. Its Dave Merrill.
I apologize if I got the spelling wrong. He has a nice easy going style. And yes The Rocket has a good selection
of music too!

Not really Liam
Only ones are for high schools to roll their bulletins and same with a couple of towns. Hardly the caliber stations to bring back
"Dacey's World"

Ha ha ... what a shame. So no ice cream eating contests either? How many current or former cape radio personalities appeared on the show? Like 4 or 5 at least.

As for The Rocket, I haven't listened to it in a while, maybe the selection has improved.

I have one thing to mention about WCOD. Some people don't have an ear to pick up on this, but to me it stands out like a sore thumb...

When Greg Cassidy was PD of WCOD, all of the music on 'COD was pitched up at 2%. Since Kevin took over, all the new music that has been loaded in is NOT pitched... the end result... right now if you turn on 106.1, you hear older songs (1+ years old) pitched up at 2%, and all the stuff not pitched is either new stuff loaded since Gregg left, or other misc. songs thrown into rotation since then.

I hope Kevin or someone out there sees this and picks up on the mistake. It just sounds very odd for the pitching to keep changing 0% to 2% every other song. Either pick to pitch, or pick not to pitch and get back to consistantcy!

Great ear, Cabral. Pitching up the music gave 'COD more energy and forward momentum. Pitching the music is an old Top 40 trick. Didn't 'COD's current PD come from Top 40?? Huh...guess he never learned that trick...among many others.

I guess it's put up or shut up time for Qauntum/Cape Cod. There are rumblings from corporate that the "Wizard of Ozbourne" isn't going to stand for another listener backslide in this next listener survey. He paid handsomely...rather overpaid handsomely for the Boch properties and he's still waiting for a return on his investment. The only consistancy WCOD has had is loss of listenership. WXTK is still hanging in there but Cool 102 is also backsliding. The reason for Cool 102's and WCOD's demise, as we learned from their OM in previous posts, is because of Frank-FM. WQRC, which was getting beat by WCOD, had no trouble INCREASING their listenership when Frank-M turned on last year. This "It's not our fault, it's always somebody or something else's fault" mentallity constantly displayed by Quantum's upper management when explaining failure won't fly this time. The "Wizard" has heard that excuse for far too long. He's asking himself why are other companies stations thriving and mine aren't? Lack of leadership, hiring friends instead of competent programmers, bad hires for morning shows, a re-active instead of pro-active operating style, management who has never learned how to win....the list of liabilities goes on and on in that company. Surely the "Wizard" can attract competent management to Cape Cod...management who were proven winners elsewhere in their careers? Maybe he'll finally realize that it's not "show friends"...it's "show business" and he'll finally make a change in the highest level of management at Qauantem/Cape Cod.

WCOD's new consultant is a good one. Going all Christmas was a good move. It couldn't hurt. Other stations get the "Christmas spike"....why not 'COD?

Heads might be rolling in a couple of months at good ol' Quentam/Cape Cod.

Despite the "backsliding" of ratings, as you put it, how's Cool 102 sounding?

Cool 102 got their target-demo ratings practically chopped in half. If that's not backsliding then how would you phrase it? [EDIT]. Is that a better description for you?? Cool 102 has lost it's direction. In typical Qauntem fashion they "knee-jerked" the music. It's like they take a bunch of songs, throw them against the wall, and hope something sticks. Re-active, not pro-active, remember?
The daypart that's slipped the most is afternoons. I remember when they hired that afternoon idiot, a bunch of people jumped on this site saying he was "god's gift to radio, he's an incredible air talent, the greatest jock to ever crack a mic." Really? Are you sure? Haven't you people even been listening? Judging from their last book I guess not. Isn't this the same guy who was leaving his air-shift hours early to go home? Nice work ethic! What a great team player! He was a cancer in the halls of Boch Broadcasting, which means he's a perfect fit for Qeuantim.
Just another great hire by the brilliant management minds of Quitenam.

[EDIT-offensive]

Just found out today I am moving back to the cape. Hope to run into some of you radio people.

Word on the Cape is Sandab just added WFCC and WKPE to their stable. Sandab's management has done an excellent job of returning WQRC to listenership glory and WOCN has always done consistantly well in it's target demo. WFCC is strong in it's demo as well. Look for Sandab's management to turn the underperforming WKPE around, too. Suddenly Sandab is the company to beat on the Cape. They have management that knows how to win. Is that another nail I hear being pounded into the revenue coffins of Nassau and Qentanum?
Pound...pound...pound...

Sorry to hear you're leaving MB, my friend. I'll miss seeing you & Katie when I take the dog for his evening walk. I'll be on the Cape in early March for the Buffett convention - hopefully the three of us can get together for dinner. Be well and good luck on the Cod!

Thank you truthandjustice. It is Dave Merrill. I like his delivery.

I've always liked dave because he does it purely as a hobby, because he loves the music. Not for the job's sake.

He really does a great job.
