Cape Cod radio

Hi all, wanted to update you on the status of Cape radio in my opinion.

92.7 WMVY. Adult album alternative, unique mix of music, but not a regular station I listen to.
94.3 WZAI. Public radio. Not a regular station I listen to.
95.1 WXTK. Local and syndicated talk. Not a regular station I listen to.
96.3 WEII. WEEI network station. Not much into sports talk.
99.9 WQRC and 106.1 WCOD. Hot AC, but too much crossover rock. However love the Dance Party with Dusty and Daphne on WCOD Sundays 5pm to 8pm.
101.1 and 93.5 Frank FM. Combine Cool 102, WQRC, WCOD, and Pixy 103, and you have Frank FM. Nothing special except you don't have to change the between the 4 stations mentioned to hear the same songs on one.
Cool 102 (101.9) WCIB and Ocean 104.7 WOCN. Closest to an oldies station you can get with great reception throughout the Cape. Cool 102 has a nice mix of classic hits and a little soul and island music. Ocean 104.7 plays a lot of 60's, 70's, and 80's hits if you don't mind the occasional slow songs.
Pixy 103 (102.9) WPXC. Plays some great classic rock, sometimes I listen to it.
Cape Country 104 (103.9) WKPE. It's great because they also play the legends back to the 60's.
107.5 WFCC. Relaxing to listen to classical while driving through the Cape's upscale neighborhoods and imagining you are rich.

Great out of market stations that can be heard in many parts of the Cape:
1030 WBZ, Boston. News, traffic, weather. Includes Cape traffic.
1090 WILD, Boston. Nice when they are playing classic soul and R&B
103.3 WODS, Boston. Classic hits, soul, disco.
107.1 WFHN, New Bedford. Top 40 mainly rhythmic.

A very good college radio station. They've really brought it back to where it belongs, ever since they ended the 'BUR simulcast a few years ago.

What happened to 99.1? I know that, technically, Plymouth is part of the South shore, not Cape Cod. But I believe that 99.1 places a solid signal (according to radio-locator.com, not quite 60 dBu--but close) over the entire Cape. Doesn't it belong on your list even if you rarely listen? After all, you listed quite a few stations that you say you rarely listen to.

91.9 Falmouth/ 1170 Orleans // WUMB
102.3 oldies from Truro dunes http://www.dunes102.com/
92.1 eclectic from Provincetown
98.1 country from New Bedford area
WPLM as mentioned

A quick look at the sched for WOMR 92.1 shows jazz, bluegrass, prog talk (Democracy Now),
blues, folk, soul etc. Appointment listening--if you enjoy a certain show you make note and
tune in (kind of like a community LPFM or college station)
 
Dunes 102 has a pretty lame signal. It does not cover the entire Cape, and much of its programming, if not all, is off the bird.
 
Hey there, yes 92.1 WOMR Provincetown is unique, also the ones I rarely listen to were also included to inform others if planning to go to the Cape.  I was mainly discussing the commercial stations, not including the non-comms and religious stations.  99.1 WPLM has a strong signal on the Cape but it's a typical soft rock station like Magic 106.7 which can also be heard, and soft rock on the Cape is covered by Ocean 104.7 WOCN.  The out of market stations I listed were formats not included in the local stations.  Dunes 102 (102.3) WGTX in Truro, is an oddity in an area of the Cape where 103.3 WODS can be heard well, yet in Barnstable and South Yarmouth, the 102.3 signal from Truro is weak due to the local stations at 102.9 and 103.9 FM.  103.3 WODS has no signal in the areas where Dunes 102 is weak.  So it's beyond me why a station like Dunes, could not be placed on a signal in the Mid-Cape.  I am sure 102.3 is also very weak in Falmouth near Cool 102 (101.9) but 103.3 WODS can be heard there.  Also for those who speak Spanish and like Latino pop music, Latina 100.3 WKKB in Providence (broadcasts from Tiverton, RI) can be heard in some parts of the Cape except near 99.9 in Barnstable. 
 
I know this is supposed to be about Commercial Radio, but, My hat is also off to 90.7 WKKL. When they stay away from the classic rock, they are solid as a college station

i had never even heard of this station before. How long has it been on the air? their IDs still say "the new Dunes 102".
 
It's WGTX licensed to Truro. They signed on 2007, using a antenna mounted about 40 feet off the ground in what I believe is North Truro. In 2008 they moved their antenna to the top of the Truro Police Department's Cell Tower, increasing the height to about 160 feet.

It had been a very long, very silent CP going back to 1988.
 
I pulled this topic out of the way back file, I'm to lazy to start another one. Cape Cod needs better radio choices! Cool 102 seems to play the same 80 classic hits, Pixy 103 plays the same hair crap with a touch of a good Zeppelin song now and then, WXTK sounds like a low budget college station. Every commercial has the same awful voice over guy. I think he's the cool 102 morning show host. I wish I had an AUX port in my work truck so I could stream. The Boston stations just don't cut it down there with all the interference in the air waves.

someone please save Cape Cod radio!

WGTX is locally owned, and I don't believe its owners have any other stations.

Many years ago, Charles River Broadcasting, which owned WCRB on the immediately adjacent 102.5 dial position, looked into buying what is now WGTX (it was then off the air). The fellow who owned it wanted more than CRB was willing to pay, considering that the population within the 60 dBu circle was only 30,000, so the deal never happened.

Well, at least you didn't say MORE radio choices. The Cape must be the most over-radioed market in the entire CONUS. (i.e. number of stations vs. number of residents)

I'm with Govt on this one. I think the Cape needs better stations, not the same repetitive choices we have elsewhere. This is an "honest" plea or evacuation..
 
yep. the eternal argument. better stations for the cc market, but no audience who would appreciate or respond to it. too old, too young, too urban, too classic rock, too much bad taste. it'll never be settled.

and as much as I am a HUGE fan of college radio, I must disagree on wkkl. the only time they sound good is when the auto pilot is on. and its on quite a bit, playing the same songs, at the same time of the day, over and over. their djs are poorly trained with no hope of landing a part time job in the cc market upon graduation. And this has happened for years. Shame on whoever is in charge there for not giving these kids a better chance to use their "degree" upon graduation. its just a huge waste of their money.
