@Rapking, yes I agree with you, yes, another good New England Radio Station.

But wait a second, look at this right quick. WQRC 99.9 was recently AC, they recently changed to (???) it looks like a mixture of HOT AC/CHR. Check out their website. They have both John Tesh on weeknights and Sunday Mornings they have Ryan Seacrest (although) "American Top 40" with Ryan Seacrest has a HOT AC version.

So, I'm assuming WQRC might be Cape Cod next CHR??

What do you think of Randy Jackson Top 30 Countdown? He has both Urban and HOT AC. Personnally I think he is madddd cool, wish he was on here in Boston

@RapKing, I was walking around Ashmont area in Dorchester, Ma, I picked up 96.3 The Rose, 99.9 WQRC, 106.1 WCOD, 92 Pro FM, 93.3 WSNE, and Ocean 104.7? It was around 8am

Wow, that really stinks. And I thought Pixy 103 was supposed to end up being the WEEI simulcast. Did it not happen?

Also, I did notice that about WQRC. I think it would appear that WCOD is becoming the Top 40 station, which is interesting because I remember it was Top 40 in the early 90s, and then they slowly evolved to a Mainstream AC format, and then became Hot AC when WQRC became mainstream AC. So, it would appear that currently, Cape Cod does not have a Mainstream AC station.

http://www.bostonradiowatch.com has the press release, which says that the addition of Cape Cod
"will allow advertisers to reach consumers in 13 of the 17 rated Arbitron Radio Markets in New England".
It should happen on or around April 1, and there will be a "phase IV" of this effort (I wonder if they will
try Rutland or Burlington VT? where else...?)

Currently WXTK 95.1 is the Cape's affiliate of the Red Sox and Celtics' radio networks.

I can remember DX-ing (by default) WRZE right out of New York City on early Monday mornings when classical WQXR, also on 96.3 FM, did their weekly sign-off.

'Tis a shame that this "Rose" will soon be withered by the big WEEI gorilla...

At what point is WEEI going to get its own channel on SiriusXM?

I'd love that! I'm down here in the Philly area and listen to the WRKO Red Sox network driving home at night on XM.

Never because Entercom hates satellite radio probably more than any other AM/FM radio company.

More than CBS?

Cool now I can listen to WEEI on 96.3 down in Cape May, NJ....During the summer 96.3 blasts in like a local fequently down there.

I could see Nassau flipping a signal. I bet Sandab is kicking theirselves in the teeth about the move they made to Country.

Qantum owns the following positions 1 - 5 - 6 - 10
Sandab owns the following positions 2 - 3 - 4 - 15

You have WCOD that will be able to play the fence, and they will have to battle it out with WQRC but I really dont see QRC going CHR, it makes TOO MUCH MONEY!

96.3's signal during DX openings won't be quite what it used to be anymore though, since they moved off Nantucket to Dennis, and lowered the power. I can't remember exactly when it was that this happened, but it was sometime last summer.

what a shame, been listening to the rose ever since my cousin (recently fired) David Duran left Fun107 to become their PD, but that's how radio is!

Seriously? On the beach with a Walkman? I'll have to listen. That's where I go and can't even get the mighty 93.3. AC / Cape May County radio leaves a little to be desired.

The Rose was always the Juggernaut of the Cape, at least it seemed like it, even though COD pulled higher ratings. It's a shame the era is over.

They're making the official flip on April 1st.

kentucky media - widen your scope. it's not a secret that every radio company on cape cod for the past eighteen months was presented with an offer to buy WEEI's simulcast. and it's not a surprise to anyone in the CC market by any stretch that the simulcast ended up on the Rose. So to say the management group of a station is 'kicking itself' for making a decision to flip its format to sports instead of country is underestimating the intelligence you just graced it with for owning another station that makes "too much money'.

The CC Market may be small, but it is run by radio companies smart enough to not make knee-jerk decisions or reactions.

Speaking of which, I'm sure you'll see Dan and Steph on COD in the mornings and Kevin Matthews moving to the afternoons to replace the PTer in the seat now. Which means a little hotter AC format for COD and a lot more energy than it exudes right now.

No one in the market will be 'kicking themselves' when that happens, either.

My bad....I meant "to country instead of sports"

where's the coffee.......

I've always thought Ricky B is a great jock. Even if he were to take over afternoons and not Kevin, he'd be just fine. I listen to him on the Rose whenever I get the chance, and granted sometimes he's a little generic, but it's tough to be anything else in 7-10 seconds. He still throws personality into it though. Kevin or Ricky would be a fine fit in the PM drive seat.

MoLarryMoLarry-

Do you think im an idiot? Thanks for trying your damndest to make me look like one.

I wasn't saying that in disgrace toward anyone, I was meaning that in a strategical plan. NO ONE at Sandab thought WRZE was going to go poof anytime soon. If anything, WKPE was a complimentary station to WOCN and WQRC. I helped hold the female wall.

Of course Cat Country did well, but now the market has not two, not one CHR. They have NO CHR stations.

So please retract your bashing sir!

I was simply meaning that no one guessed that Rose would go bye bye.

Kentucky Media - if you re-read my post you'll see that, (1) I wasn't bashing you, just responding to your views and (2), radio companies in this market were not surprised by the demise of the Rose. saavy radio people in the CC market, by a simple process of station elimination, knew that EEI would end up on the Rose months ago. there are three radio companies down there and EEI has spoken to them all over the past 18 months. There are no secrets - All of them said no thanks, and then Qantum reconsidered.

A number of smart posts in this stream made by people who understand the Cape market confirm why the choice was made at Qantum to eliminate the Rose. Nassau and Sandab are happy with their properties and format choices (which includes turning down EEI) and now Qantum finally has its ducks in a row. The Cape market is healthy again format-wise. And that's good for advertisers as the spring/summer season approaches.

ok, so there's no CHR in the market. There will be again, down the road, when its needed. what's needed now are formats that help cape cod advertisers and radio companies survive the recession. for now, in this economy, the formats that are in the CC market are serving the demos that live there and support the economy financially.....12-16 year olds crying about the new Lil Wayne song do not.
