Capital "GOLD" 1548AM

http://mygoldmusic.co.uk/default.asp

What a playlist!!! I just heard Spandau Ballet's "Gold". Too bad we don't have a station with such range in the States. I'm relaying it on my LPFM as we speak...

I love the news at the top of the hour, and the presenter (we call them DJ's) is solid, tight, and doesn't yammer on forever. It is truly "all about the music". Wish I knew the guy's name. The show is listed as "Gold Through The Night".

wow i'm amazed. Here in the uk every one is moaning that there is to much automation and the 'local element is gone. Oh well Am is doing about as well here as in the states so i guess i can't blame them

Sorry to be coming late to this thread. I was a big fan of "Capital Gold" from the time I first discovered it on the web until the merger with "Classic Gold" this past year. The new "Gold" is still an enjoyable listen, and this week, they revamped their line-up, making it a bit more like the old "Capital Gold" schedule, bringing back Dean Martin's all-request show in the evenings. Their weekend specialty shows are especially good, including Greg Edwards' Fri & Sat "Soul Party" and their retro-chart countdown "From the Bottom to the Top". And Rockin' Rob -- if you're looking for US stations with range, I recommend wlng.com and kcdx.com

Sounds like a good candidate for an HD2 channel. :)

D'OH!! don't even go there. 1 we don't have HD Radio or IBOC or whatever it's being called today and second our Digital Radio system is on it's knees. Gold was and still a hot topic because Gcap and butchered it, automated it removed most local content and frankly i could do a better job with shoutcast. I don't know the situation over there how many stations are netwkwoked, sydicated and so on but here some stations have as little as 4 hours of local programs a day

I mean an HD2 Channel in the USA....we don't have a lot of good stations to listen to here.

Be lucky for music still on what I believe you call the medium wave. Here, its an anomoly designed to generate short term listenership. Our local content is gone.... FROM THE FM BAND!

And, Mike, I am not familiar with the other, but I also enjoy punching up WLNG from time to time. It's just Capital Gold is more 70's and 80's (read: the music I grew up with). Sort of like a Jack FM on steroids.... Also, I don't know what they do to the webstream, as far as compression, but they sound so sweet!!!

People always seem to screw up a good thing dont they?? (They me$$ with success :()

i like listening to Gold, especially on sunday afternoons when they have the classic album show, my tunes. sweeny's 60's and the doo wop show....I wish there was a little more content....I find the dj's quite good and interesting.

Sadly, Greg Edwards did his final "Soul Party" shows on Gold last week. Here's hoping he surfaces somewhere else soon (the newly reborn Jazz-FM, perhaps?).

Looks like the Classic Album show is gone, along with Greg Edwards.

I fancy the classic album show alot...they played some rare tunes that are not played on the radio much these days.....Nicky Horne does not even have the afternoon show on Sat anymore...is this station going through a format/personality change?

our version of the FCC is Ofcom (i call them ofcon) They seem to let the big groups get away with almost anything including more networking and automation. As I post this all Gold stations are playing the exact same thing and I can hear about 4-5 of them. As far as FM is concerned there are another 4-5 stations i can hear again playing the same narrow playlists.

Looks like Gold has done away with their retro-chart show, "Bottom to the Top" -- trying to listen on the podcast and I'm getting Dean Martin with an "expanded" version of his request show. Another sad loss on (what's left of) Gold.

That's bad, I liked that show.
