What's wrong with American media?

Too much of the ownership is concentrated in too few hands. As a result, Americans in too many communities are getting a one-size-fits-all version of the news and a homogenized sampling of our rich and diverse culture. As a result, dissenting views and challenging ideas are squeezed out of a dumbed-down discourse.

As distant conglomerates buy up local television and radio stations, content and quality suffer. Newsroom budgets are cut, journalists are laid off, and what used to be the "news" degenerates into a slurry of breathless crime reports, overhyped weather bulletins and exercise tips.

Who says this? Radical media critics? ...
