WKTM radio (104.9 FM and 1540 AM) in Hartford calls itself the Polka Palace because of its daily polka parties. It will help present the annual Hartford Polkafest, Oct. 20-22 at the Chandelier Ballroom, 150 Jefferson Ave., and sells polka music CDs online. Consult www.wktm.com, 800-924-9856.

Closer to Madison, an all-polka format at WIBU's rural Poynette radio studio was pulled in 1991, about one year after its introduction.

"It was a difficult format to execute, from a programming standpoint," station owner Lee Harris said at that time. The typical WIBU listener, he said, was 62 years old, with rural roots.
