Rumor has it that a certain trio of former New Orleans radio legends (washed up has-beens) will be having lunch at your fine establishment (choke & puke) on Tuesday, 5/15/07. No telling who else might show up to gawk and bask in the former glory of these stars (burn-outs).

Hmm... Inquiring minds and all that.
 
db: could you give me an approximate time when you'll arrive. If you do, then we'll have time to turn the "open" sign off, turn out the lights & run in the back and hide like old scared italian women.

Tastiest hot sausage po-boy on either side of the lake! Banks is slipping, didn't finish all his fries. Great groceries Cap! Hope we didn't run off too much of your business.
 
Great Sammich!

Cap, gotta hand it to ya...your restaurant is well worth a visit, especially with the likes of Blair and the Fat Man in tow for great stories and camaraderie. I felt like I was listening to mornings on KOOL-95 in '93-'94, when it was...good. Anyway, da 12" roast beef po-boy with swiss cheese, dressed, gravy and extra pickles brought on one great nap later yesterday afternoon.

Keep da beef comin' and best of luck on your radio gig *from* your restaurant. We'll be back soon.

FM: Sorry we're way out of your price range. And you're incorrect. It's $12.95 for most of our po-boys. I've been open since Ash Wednesday, 2001. From that day til now, I've told our patrons that our food is hot, fresh and good. We get seafood , bread and produce fresh every morning. EVERYTHING is homemade, including our roast beef. Every thing we prepare is made to order. We're proud of our food. Our po-boy halves are bigger than everyone else's full sized. And as we always say, you get what you pay for. Any chance someone can divulge the name and location of this po-boy haven? If it's got some of those Noo-Awlins-style po-boys that are soooo messy you gotta wear a raincoat to keep 'em from spilling all over ya, count me in. ::)
 
Here's the correct phone number. The one in the last post is his old number and doesn't work anymore. The correct one is 985-640-9727.

It's true that Cap isn't the cheapest po-boy in town but you do get what you pay for. Many times I've gotten his roast beef and if you took the meat that falls off of his po-boy while you're eating it you would have about as much as most other places put on their sandwiches. The hot sausage is made fresh there and is an old family recipe that absolutely no other place has.

WWL TV's Unknown Food Critic did a search for the Best Po-Boy in New Orleans a couple of years ago. Cap got 2nd. place for Best Roast Beef, 1st. place for Best Seafood (oyster) and Best Overall. Thanks, guys. In addition to information on Captain Humble's po-boy eatery, the link gave me an excuse to visit the Oldie King's Radio Shrine Web site again.

I foresee taking a trip to Slidell in the near future.
 
FM sez it's way tooooo much for a poboy. That was my first visit to Cap's and I must say I experienced "sticker-shock" when I picked up the menu. But after nawing on that hot sausage poboy, I had no problem with the price. Somethings are worth a few extra bucks and that's one of them. Next time, I'll get it with grilled onions! If you get sides, you get a ton of fries and onion rings. It was the first time I saw Don Bank not clean his plate, so you know it'll fill ya up. To many sandwich places fry up those frozen patties, full of grease and give you heartburn for days.

You see people lined up outside Red Lobster for frozen seafood under $10.00. Why? I'll line up for a sandwich at Cap's any day, FRESH! Suppose the local folks. Lucky I live in River Ridge, otherwise I'd look like Banks, OMG. Plus, he's full of stories about radio back in the 60's and 70's to boot. It's a great experience.

I'm starting to sound like Tom Fitzmorris, so I'm out of here.
 
After a week, with over 600 hits, seems like folks are more interested in Captain Humble's poboys than New Orleans radio. But then, can you blame them. Interesting posts. My question, do Don Banks and Bob Walker fool with their ham radios? I'd like to pass by the next that crew stops in for lunch and chews the fat. Would love to hear the stories they have to tell. Bon appetite!
 
I'm still active in ham radio, Bob isn't but is thinking about getting back into it. Bayou, are you a ham?

My problem is that I don't have any antennas up here in Picayune yet. I'm getting ready to put up 40' of tower and have antennas up for VHF/UHF repeater work, horizontal antennas for VHF, UHF & 6 meters and a wire antenna for HF.

I was running VHF/UHF/HF mobile until I traded in my Grand Cherokee for a Chrysler 300. The antennas would ruin the look of the car, plus the trunk lid is aluminum so I don't want to hang big antennas on there.

I just returned fro the Dayton Hamvention. What a blast! I'm also anchoring Amateur Radio Newsline occasionally.

I don't know when we'll be going back to Cap's but the more the merrier!

Shucks, your morse code message got deleted, Don. I'm still sharp as a tack with Morse Code and would have loved to read it in code!

I'm a ham, Advanced class, since the early 60's and thinking about getting on 2 meters again at least. Lowbands, as much as I love them, call for bulky gear and an antenna farm that I don't have room for, unfortunately. Especially since my getaway in Clermont Harbor blew away in the storm.

Anyway, long-time legendary record promo guy and early TIX-AM DJ Bob Robin wants to join us at Cap's, and Fridays are best for him. Let's all get together for some great radio and stories... everyone is welcome for a classic lunch together at Cap's. Meet the old f*rt DJ's you've heard so much about!

OK, who would be available for a Friday noon lunch? Date to be determined by responses but we could shoot for next Friday, June 1 or the next Friday, June 8. I'm ok with both.
